Free agent Shawn Springs never did make his flight to New England and is expected to visit the Patriots today.
He also has a visit with New Orleans lined up for tonight. The Pats appeal to veterans like Springs and it'd be no surprise if they sign him immediately.

If that happened i would be so happy, but not likely! I can see Springs and Bodden coming in but i cant see Peppers just because of how much he will want and what Carolina will want for him!!

yah i agree. peppers is going to cost so much money plus draft choices. i dont think he is a viable option at this point. and based on what i have observed, i highly doubt he is willing to come at a discount. some are suggesting he would require haynesworth type money. how could a team give a guy that much money to play a position he has never played

Why does almost everyone assume that Peppers, who will be a conversion project, would demand that much money? If he truly wants to convert to an OLB, his best bet would be to either sign a bargain 1 year deal, or a contract that is very much incentive based. Until we know more, people really shouldn't just assume that Peppers will require that much $$$ to sign.

Also, Carolina has their hands tied until they get rid of Peppers. The longer it takes, the less compensation they will get for him. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually have to cut him.

I think most assume he wants a lot of money, because he stands to make almost 17 mill this yr under the tag. He is an elite player, much like a Wilfork, Haynesworth, etc--and I have heard reports that he wants at least something in the ballpark of Haynesworth's contract. That said, so now will Vince. You have to look at first 4 yrs of Haynesworth's deal--pays about 12 mill / per. Common sense just says these types of players are going to look for approx. 10 mill / per. Just look at Freeny's contract, which was what, 72 mill or so. And I say this respectfully, not argumentatively. Just don't see a player of his caliber signing a "bargain 1 yr deal," as you put it.

Boldin would be a luxury item for us. It's the defense that needs the make-over. our offense is fine for the next couple of seasons. I anticipate some OL help via the draft, but we have plenty in the offensive skill position war chest right now.

Not a good deal for our #3 WR, not enough balls to go around between Moss, Welker, Boldin, and an upgrade or re-emergance of our TE's which I expect. They'd all be taking away from each other, and #3 WR isn't a high dollar position

I haven't heard any reports about how about how much he wanted for compensation except for one quote; "I already have the money". This quote was made in the context of talking about converting to a 3-4. If you could link one of these reports saying he want's Haynesworth, I'd love to see it, but I have a hunch that's what he would want as a DE, not as a conversion player. I'd like to take a look for myself.

And I agree, common sense does say that an elite player will look for that much money. My point is, a conversion player is a gamble and instantly puts to question the idea of an "Elite Player" status. That is my entire point..... asking to be a conversion project is basically asking for less money in the short term. What team would cough up 10+ mil$/year for a conversion player. I'm pretty sure Al Davis doesn't have the cap space to make the move, and Jerry Jones isn't that stupid. Also consider, there are only so many 3-4 teams, and he narrowed it to 5, himself. That doesn't sound like the behanvior of someone seeking the BIG contract.

The bottom line is that I agree that Peppers is an elite player, and if he were to remain a lineman, he would demand a HUGE salary. If Peppers truly believes being a OLB will unlock his potential, a one year "prove it" deal could be the gateway to riches in his next contract. Unless Peppers is completely delusional, he would understand this. If he is delusional, he won't be an OLB. I understad your view, but I just can't see anyone maknig the move for a conversion project for that kind of money.

I'm not sure how much I want him There is some risk and I'm not sure if his locker room demeanor is a good fit for the Pats. That's all up to people with a lot more knowledge about Peppers, the situation, and football in general. I also believe a prove-it deal from Peppers would be unlike the deal for Moss. To my eyes, it did appear that Moss had fallen off a bit, but there were extenuating circumstances, and scouts would certainly have a much better grasp on that than I would.

Pepper's deal wouldn't wouldn't be a "prove you haen't lost a step" type deal.... it would be a "prove your as a OLB as you are a DE". To me, that's fundamentally different. There are some similarities though, in that Pepper's ability is freakish in the way that Moss' is.

Then again, AD was "sort of" a conversion player that got big dollars, but the change from OLB to ILB is much less severe, and if it didn't work out, he could always move back outside.... like he did. He also did play some ILB on occasion before he came here. The problem is, if Peppers doesn't work out, the Pats aren't going to become a 4-3 team Does anyone have an example of an elite DE who went to another team as a conversion to OLB project? I'm not sure it's ever happened.

The Eagles announced that they are hosting free agent Shawn Springs Tuesday.

Multiple reports had Springs visiting the Patriots and Saints today, but those meetings may have been pushed back. There are rumors circulating that if Philly adds another cornerback Sheldon Brown will go on the trade block.

BadMoFo-in response to what you posted, Sirius radio reported that the Eagles are thinking about trading Sheldon Brown to Zona for Boldin. Reports have come out from the Philly sports media that Brown is unhappy with his current contract...don't blame him, really, as they gave some 5 years/$20m to their nickel back Joselio Hansen(who's really average, at best).

If they trade Brown, this would be a HUGE blow to the Eagles secondary b/c Brown is one of the most complete CBs in this league(coverage, tackling, hitting, etc).
