Jim Donaldson -- Has marriage cost Tom Brady his competitive edge?

Read it during breakfast.. pretty absurd.. if he was not such a ninwit.. would have thought it was a joke.. just another function of the bored ill informed idle press.. gotta write something.

But he’ll be 32 this summer. He’s coming off the first serious injury of his career. He should be financially set for life. He’s married to one of the glamorous women in the world.

In the fiercely competitive world of the National Football League, does Brady still have the drive to excel, to be the best?

There’s no reason to think he doesn’t still have the same talent. But is he still the same guy?

Or has he become somebody who spends more time thinking about Dolce and Gabanna than he does about the Jets and Dolphins?

Stupid, stupid Brady and his dumb marriage! Settling down with a pretty lady who likes fashion! He's lost it! His career is over. Imagine an NFL player going on vacation during the off-season and getting married. The nerve.

Why can't he just move into a room at the Patriots Place hotel and live there year-round? That's a severe lack of commitment.

What I don't get is this:
The thing about the Great Ones is that they always want to win.

How is marrying the world's top model who makes $30 million a year make him less interested in winning?

If anything, marrying Gisele is proof that, when it comes to the game of romance, Brady went all out and topped all comers. He won. Top model. Top earner. Check. Maybe he doesn't love her at all, maybe it was his competitive nature that convinced him to marry her. Tom the gold-digger, trophy-winner.

There's nothing wrong with asking the question. The problem is that it's a 1-2 sentence question and not worth an entire column.

I must be missing something. I just don't see the relavence of even the question. I mean you could ask this of hundreds of scenario's.

Maybe Brady is just a victim of how hard has worked to get him to the point he is at now? It would have been better if he didn't have to work so hard and just F'd off all day. Then it wouldn't matter.

Looks like we traded the wrong guy :D

Anytime someone has a significant life change, there's a possibility that their outlook on things is altered. Now that he's married, is the traveling wife going to want him in her entourage during the offseason, or will he be 'allowed' to participate the way he used to? Questions like that arise from these situations, and I see no problem in wondering about them. As I noted, I don't think it's worth a column, but many a single man has found his life dramatically changed after the "I do" ceremony.

In other words, women weaken legs.

When he has substance to base his opinion on, I'll hear it. Until then... who cares?

A lot of players get married, and nobody cares. Most of them aren't among the single most borderline-pathologically competitive people to ever play the game. To say that I'm not worried would be an understatement. Donaldson is a ******* idiot.

you mean Brady....has a fashion sense and likes to marry pretty girls he's in love with!?

i'd like to see jim donaldson go through ten months of physical rehab and see if he still thinks you can do that and not want to win. brady could walk away right now and be set for life if he didn't have the competitive fire in him.

I think it's fair to speculate on what kind of post-Gisele Brady will be coming back......"weak legs," lack of energy etc.

I'm glad another poster reminded me of Brady's "yapping" at Steelers' CB Smith before and during last years game after Smith predicted a Steelers' win. No worries, as he was intense, focused and lethal last season. The SB? I think the whole team looked flat.

How stupid can an article get...

I know of a coach who actualy suggested to a player he get married and settle down :D

I'd say it's an entirely pointless question when the marriage only occured a matter of days ago, during the off-season. "Could marriage cost Tom Brady his competitive edge?" would have made more sense, whilst still being entirely speculative.

Don't see the issue anyway, it's not like it's a whirlwind romance, from everything I can gather (and I don't pay an awful lot of attention to this stuff) Tom and Gisele have been in a serious relationship for a pretty long time, including the 2007 season where Brady broke records galore. Quite why a ring on the finger and a bit of a knees-up should make a big difference is beyond me.

Come on people, this is Jim Donaldson, he's obviously out of ideas as usual ............

Not to worry. The ProJo is cutting back weekly now it seems and he could be bumped soon by SMY.

I hear the Woonsocket Call calling Jim.

I agree.

Teddy Bruschi + Stroke = Story on "possibility that their outlook on things is altered"

Leave all the other crap to Gale, Laura, TMZ ect. Unless Thats what Jim Donaldson wants to be??

Does his premise then in turn imply that Travis Henry is one competitive mofo (for all his kids/women out of wedlock)???? :) :D

No man is complete until he's married.

Then he's finished.
