I know the thread will be moved but wanted people to see it first!

Here is the full story:

The Redskins released defensive end Jason Taylor after both sides failed to restructure his contract.

Taylor was scheduled to make $8.5 million this season, but the team needed the cap room to put in the six-year, $54 million contract signed last week by cornerback DeAngelo Hall. According to a source, Taylor was asked by the Redskins to be part of 75 percent of the offseason workouts. That would require him to be at Redskins part eight of the 13 weeks of the offseason program three days a week,

Family took precedence over the money.

With three children, Taylor, who has a home in the Miami area, opted not to agree to the workout provisions. The team was willing to keep his restructured salary at $8.5 million, but his desire to be with his family in the offseason was more important in his life.

Taylor came to the Redskins from the Dolphins for a second-round choice in 2009 and s sixth-rounder in 2010.

The 34-year-old Taylor has 120.5 career sacks. He's been to the Pro Bowl six times during his Dolphins career.

Despite his departure from the Dolphins, Taylor is still interested in continuing his NFL career.

I'm pretty sure Brady himself is flying Taylor in right now :)

I'm sure there won't be any interest from New England. :singing:

Sounds like a potential Junior Seau type signing... stay by the phone, hang out with the kids, we will call around mid-august, enjoy your summer.

Odds that Belichick has already called Taylor....?

Dude, they've already been on the phone, for SURE.

Didn't catch the link on this one and can't seem to find it elsewhere. Could you post it - thanks.

This is great news. I know Brady likes him, and he's sure caused us enough problems in the past to be worth signing. That'd be awesome. Make no mistake-- he's still good too, I think.

I don't necessarily believe this, but... any chance there were ripplings of this news prior to the Pats trading away Vrabel?

but if bb is hell bent on infusing youth in our team then he may actually shy away from taylor esp if he costs this high (8.5 mill $)

If he's concerned with spending time with his family, he may accept a lot less if it means the Pats will let him report late.

also if taylor wants seperate clauses on off season workouts etc, BB wouldnt want to effect that with the team concept and offering special concession even before he has played a down for the team . these are some what potential issues to him coming here

Belichick always gives veterans time off in camp. If that's what it takes to get Jason Taylor here, he'll do it. I'd have to imagine his phone's ringing off the hook, but I'd also have to imagine the Patriots will be bidding hard for his services.

Now are we talking about turning Taylor into an OLB here?
