Good pickup for them. They have a bunch of real good DL

how many defensive lineman are they going to have? Osi, Mathias, Canty, Bernard, what do they have like 15 of em now?!

Canty signs with Giants 6-years 42M!!>???

Crazy.....

how many dl do they need?

Re: Canty signs with giants 6 yrs 42M!!>???

As many as it takes to stop teams triple-teaming Tuck.

The Giants evidently feel about pass rushers the way the Colts feel about WRs.

Wonder how this will play into re-signing or extending Seymour. Personally, I would have been thrilled to plug Canty into Seymour's spot for that much money - Seymour is obviously the better player but Canty is younger, and getting a quality 3-4 DE to pair with Warren for a reasonable contract would have been nice.

Good pickup for the Giants. Obviously they feel Canty fits into what they want to do on defense - get after the QB.

FWIW-Canty may not be a Demarcus Ware player for us, and no, I'm not sure if he's worth that much, but nonetheless, this is a BIG loss for us b/c of his Run Defense.

Plus even though it took him some time, he was slowly, but surely starting to gel with Wade's schemes. Once upon a time ago, he was Tuna's apple of his eye in the latter rounds of the 2005 draft-so I wasn't sure if he could make the adjustment from Tuna's bend-but-don't-break schemes to Wade's attacking schemes, but he did eventually. Plus for a DE, he commands a BIG body(some 298 pounds).

Again-this is a BIG loss for us.

Make no mistake-Canty's departure will be a HUGE loss for Dallas. No-he's not exactly a Demarcus Ware, carry-a-team-on-my-back kind of guy, but he was VERY instrumental on this unit, especially his RUN DEFENSE. It was no coincidence that Parcells fell in love with him on draft day(he was drafted in the 4th round, but insiders talked about his steal potential then).

Is he REALLY worth this much? Honestly-I don't, and I'm kinda glad Jethro didn't open up his wallet here. However-like I said, not only was he instrumental on this unit, but he was also gelling with Wade's schemes slowly but surely-especially b/c supposedly, he was suited more for Parcells' schemes.

I mean heck-Jethro probably SHOULDN'T have broke the bank on Barber, and should have, instead used this money on Canty.

iam a little surprised the pats didnt entertain canty. seymour has 1 yr to go and they couldve replaced him and shipped seymour elsewhere...

Re: Canty signs with giants 6 yrs 42M!!>???

this market's really bizarre. that seems like crazy money for a guy that most teams consider a 3-4 system player and a second-tier one at that.

FYI-He was projected to be a 1st rounder in 2005, but an eye injury prevented him from being so. Largely b/c of Parcells' bend-but-don't-break-you-have-to-think-too-hard schemes, he didn't flourish much in year 1(even Demarcus Ware didn't fully flurish until Wade's attacking schemes came to town).

Like I said-he's not exactly a Ware/Merriman/Harrison kind of guy where he can carry a team on his back, but a system guy like Asante Samuels? Hardly-he'll do just fine with the Giants' schemes. And it pains me to type this b/c he went to an NFCE rival AND our run D just took a hit. Now I wish Jethro didn't go out of his way to give Barber everything he wanted last year(i.e. I'm hearing stories now that Felix will be our starting RB next year).

Re: Canty signs with Giants 6-years 42M!!>???

IMO, the Giants have improved the most out of any playoff team so far.

Yep-and they've done it WISELY to boot. They didn't play FF like Snyder does, nor did they overtly break the bank on only 1 player...they ended up getting 3 Haynesworths for the price of 1...ALL on the D side of the ball.

Now if Burress comes back AND gets his act together, the Giants should win the NFCE and be a force in the playoffs again.

canty's not a pass rusher. he's a two gap player. he'd fit in our team better than the giants who use a 4-3. honestly, the guy is 6'7 and 317 - that's too big and heavy for a 4-3.

canty's ok i guess, but they have too many d-lineman right now. they are going to have to cut some players like robbins or cofield. their d-line has never been a problem. its their quarterback and secondary.

No it's not. Green Bay used to run a 4-3 with everybody 1-gapping except for 380-lbs. Gilbert Brown on the nose, and Jacksonville/Carolina have run 4-3's with lineman the same size or bigger than Canty: Kris Jenkins, John Henderson, Marcus Stroud. Then you've got Minnesota, which has run a 4-3 with the Williamses for the past half-decade. John Randle was usually paired with a big fat run-stuffing DT like Jerry Ball. I could go on.

In Canty they've got a strong and athletic lineman that can play anything from a 1 to a 5 tech, so they can move him around the line with Tuck and have Canty suck up the blockers that normally are dedicated to stopping Tuck.

Again-Canty was supposed to be 1st round material on draft day in 2005, but an eye injury ended up dropping his stock. Nonetheless, Parcells went ga-ga over him, and the minute Wade joined here 2 years ago, he started speaking raves about him.

Canty's an excellent run stopper, which is why he's going to be sorely missed in our D, plus in the 2nd half of 2007, he was starting to gel in Wade's attacking schemes as his pass rushing skills was starting to look really good.

Even though he's not a Ware/Merriman/Seymour/Harrison type of game-changer, he's not exactly a "system" player either.
