If Crable ever makes the game day roster, the only game time sniff he'll get will be 3rd and longs. I base this on 3 plays I saw him in action in preseason. Against the Giants...goal line stand...3 consecutive running plays....3 times blown backwards like I have never seen in the NFL. Those long skinny legs will never be effective holding his ground and creating leverage. He may be able to run around a tackle on occasion, but forget the notion of an every down player. Could he have been "assigned" to the DL just because BB realized he was wasting roster space. My conspiracy tendencies say yes. Gotta go now...black helicopter overhead watchimg me.

You're basing this on 3 measly plays from a pre-season game. Whew! Good thing BB knows what he is doing, because most of us were ready to throw Cassel on the trash heap based on his pre-season performance as well.

Re: Crable

He has also had 1 year of NFL nutrition and workouts, lets not throw him away until we at least see him on the field.

You're making a career assessment on a player base on three plays in his rookie season ? Either You are Nostradamus or this is simply dumb.

Ok, I saw 3 plays of Crable also. 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. The HOF is getting his bust ready.

YouTube - Shawn Crable

A little bit of comfort food. Of course it doesn't really mean anything, but at least the guy isn't a complete stiff.

Re: Crable

I also saw a jump-in-the-air interception :)

Re: Crable

I watched The Crab in training camp pre-season. Big guy, fast. Pipestem legs reminding me of Chris Canty. The Crab needs to follow the off-season strength building program assiduiously and study hard. If he applies himself fully, he'll challenge for 2009 PT on the 53. If he doesn't, I think that the Redd, Woods and a draft pick will bump him.

Now, if you want to say your concerned that a 3rd pick couldn't even make an impact on special teams I'll agree. However, lets hope the guy has been doing what he needs to do to improve.

I don't see him in competition with Woods. Right now, Woods is the starter. I think the OLB draft pick has the best chance to prove something and that's where Crable's main competition will come from. Redd will be kept only as a backup/potential grooming guy and ST player. As much as I like Redd, he's still at least a year or two away from contributing on D.

That was a sweet pick :D

I think it's safe to say, that until preseason starts, we really shouldnt be making dumb comments about Crable, especially off of 3 bad plays.

Re: Crable

Woods doesn't hold the corner well, IMHO, so if he's the starter then I'm not too psyched. If Crable only gets on the field for passing downs but is an impact pass rusher then I say Hallelujah!

3 plays I saw him in action in preseason?
Based on preseason Cassel should have been cut! We're lucky to have anything at all for Matt. I wish him the best

If Woods is the starter, WE'RE SCREWED!! He's horrible, he looks clueless out there, he gets blown off the line of scrimmage. I can't see the fascination with Woods, what has he ever done (right that is)?

Thomas needs to be inside, he has shwon that he is much better in there. He and Mayo would be an outstanding pair of ILB. The problem now is that the Pats have ABSOLUTELY No One to play OLB!! The BB Patriots have always had a great collection of LBs. Today they have Mayo and Thomas and tha tha tha tha tha thats all folks!!!

At the very least I was expecting Vrabel to move to the inside this year and have Thomas and 1st round pick playing OLB. Then I got really excited when I thought that BB had traded Vrabel, Cassel, & #23 for #3, which would have meant Curry.

TODAY they need a starting ILB and a starting OLB. I have no idea what it would take to get Peppers from Carolina, I don't see anyone else in Free Agency that would fill that void. I guess you could throw yor conscience out the window and sign Ray Lewis.

Crable is an unknown, Alexander and Woods have been taking up roster spots for a few years and are the epitome of JAGs.

Of course the Pats could draft Cushing and Matthews, Jr. and they would be fine, but that is a big gamble that they will be around when the Pats pick.

Plus if he haven't noticed the Pats lack a starting Safety (both harrison and Sanders are gone). The holes they are a plenty, I can only hope that BB somehow reverses his putrid 2nd round drafting history and comes up with 3 gems.

We're going to have a very different looking LB corps in the near future IMO. His athletic skills should fit into the mix nicely. He obviously needs to get stronger.

I don't see him as a starting OLB soon, since i feel the Patriots are going after a monster pass rusher.

You mentioned Matthews and Cushing. Think about English, Barwin, and Kruger, too. I agree that if Woods is the starter they've gone downhill, but I figure there's a plan that involves an OLB draft pick and an ILB free agent (Barton, Seward). Not time to panic yet, even though my finger is hovering over the red button. :scared:

I agree. It's only heresay from this board, but several people have said 2 second round picks for Peppers on draft day would get the deal done. What do you think? Is that realistic?

And based on preseaon games, Matt Cassel wasn't even going to make the final 53 man roster. Good thing Belichick doesn't base his evaluation on three preseason plays.

Thanks for the meaningful contribution and enrichment of my football experience.

Wow. What a completely ridiculous, over-the-top post. Are you a troll from elsewhere or just...wildly ignorant and kneejerky? Take a breath. We have plenty of time to evaluate these young players.

You could be right in the end, but I think it's important to take the time to not just lump Pierre Woods in with a scrub like Eric Alexander. BB just gave Woods the 2nd round tender. Add that to this comments on Woods last T.C., and I feel okay, even a little enthused, about Pierre's potential. (And, yes, I still want to pursue a guy like Peppers.)
