Belichick will make the media look foolish as usual

It's certainly possible that Belichick will make the media look foolish, but that would require a MAJOR mis-evaluation by Pioli. Pioli should have a better idea than anyone (other than McDaniels who also was reportedly interested) about what type of player Matt Cassel is.

For Belichick to make the media look foolish, Cassel will have to be a bottom ten NFL starting QB. If he's better than that, a 2nd round pick was a small price to pay.

Opening a roster spot, significant cap space and turning a 7th round QB into a top #2 pick?

Wow. A really bad day for you must involve misplacing your pocket lint.

If you just look at the deal in a vacuum, Belichick got raped. If you look at it as Belichick doing Pioli a favor while getting Cassel and Vrabel a nice situation to go to, BB did a solid for some people he likes.

But, let's not pretend that Belichick somehow snookered Pioli, or anyone, or even broke even for what should have been gotten, on this deal.

I gotta Question for you McSully did you really want to keep nearly a quarter of you salary cap on 2 players one of which would hardly get to play if at all, which would force you to not go after many players to improve your team. Or would you rather dump te salray and take the risk that the 34th best player in the draft ends up as a failure.
Me i'd rather take a risk becasue with the extra money your are saving can be called insurance

No-one is pretending the deal is better for us than them, but it's better for us than being left undone. I think they knew they would have to deal low and fast or go into next year as the retirement home of the NFL.

There's no "favour" going down here. Cassel likely picked limited landing pads and Bill is running out of time/money to make some hits in FA.

If Matt never played, Vrabel likely gets dumped anyway and Matt walks away into obscurity. The deal would be rape if it were Thomas and Brady. but it wasn't.

I think as good as MC was he was in a system which had a now head coach as OC , the best dump reciever in football(Welker) and a solid system and line.

I do think we might have flattered him and if that is true and KC don't go 8-8+ then everyone will be saying 34 looked pretty good?

How strong do we think this draft is???? mixed opinions on the net. But some say strongest since Rivers et al year.

Ben

What i gotta wonder is how can you all be so sure that the Pats were asking for a lot the deal got done 2 days after it was allowed to be done. If any of you were were there in all the meeting with BB et al tell us what really happened other then that don't assume there were asking for a lot

I dunno... the gall of AD breaking his arm... I mean Harrison shredding his quad... I mean Brady messing up his knee... I mean...

Dude/Ma'am - I suggest some herbal tea and a couple of walks around the block. Maybe pet a dog or hold a baby. It's gonna be ok. The sun will shine again.

We'll see how happy you are when the defense can't stop (dog stuff)

Will it be worse than this year? Cuz I enjoyed myself pretty well despite the fact that they couldn't stop Jim Brown circa 2009.

According to multiple reports, there were better offers on the table sources and the Patriots passed them up.

Belichick did Pioli a solid. It's not a big deal, but pretending otherwise is looking more and more ridiculous as time goes by.

Instead of Pioli, I'd say BB did the Patriots a favor by sending Cassel to the Chiefs. They still won't be a playoff team until maybe next year. Much better than sending him to the Jets/Bucs/Broncos/Vikes whom we could be facing in the Playoffs/SB

Broncos, Vikings and Bucs would have been better.. Denver has NO defense and it will take a while.. Plus who knows about McDaniels.. Vikings.. There coach blows, enough said..
Bucs.. Did you watch the new coach during the press conference when they released half their vets.. He basically stuttered and crapped his pants.. That team took a step back..

i agree we will be fine. but i am still scratching my head about the trade

It's not about sending him to the Chiefs, it's about sending 2 starters (yes, Cassel was a starter last season and will be a starter this year) to the Chiefs for only a second round pick. Cassel alone was worth more than that.

what was Cassel worth to you at the end of last August?

Vrabel was a cap casualty...you can call it what you want...he was going for nothing anyway.

Cassel was throwing to a Hall of Fame WR and one of the top slot receivers in the game...the Pats added a high 2nd, 2 slots out of the first round, gained additonal OVERWHELMING flexibility, can easily dictate their draft at will, moving up or down...and this is not good enough. The Pats cut Milloy...I heard the same tired bullcrap from the same type of spoiled little baby fans. You don't like the way Kraft and BB run this team, LEAVE for some other squad...like the Rats...they throw plenty of money around and make plenty of huge splashes...don't let the door hit ya yada yada yada....

The Denver Broncos may have seriously damaged their relationship with quarterback Jay Cutler.

A source close to the situation confirmed the Broncos were trying to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots by dangling Cutler, their Pro Bowl quarterback.

The trade talk infuriated Cutler, who now wants to leave the Broncos.

The source said the proposed trade was a three-way deal that would have sent Cassel to Denver to reunite with former Patriots offensive coordinator and new Denver head coach Josh McDaniels, Cutler to Tampa Bay and compensation from Tampa Bay to New England.

Furthermore, and I can't get online verification for this, but multiple sources on the Chiefs board claim that Michael Smith (Sportscenter) is reporting that the Patriots were offered a first round pick:

what the heck is the difference what his value was in august? its February. i dont know what the market was for cassel, but i cant imagine it being as low as we got. the only explanation i can think of is that he wanted cassel to go to a place where he could exceed and was throwing pioli a bone. im sure they will work together on deals in the future.

Jets! Hop on the band wagon Joker.

if all the fans somehow realize that this is a bad deal, then it means that
a) BB is so stupid when making the deal that he didnt realize he was getting jobbed
b)there was there some other reason we cant guess as yet. f
for now i think its the latter...

makes no sense. why would denver dangle cutler to the pats for cassel for a straight swap ?if that deal happened , they should get more for cutler IMO.
i think the bucs wanted to deal with the pats for a 1st if the bucs parted with cutler for cassel straight up which didnt happen.
michael smith now works for ESPN so dont trust that news outlet anymore.

The way I got it was that it was a 3 way deal with Cutler going to Tampa, Cassel going to Denver and the Tampa #1 going to New England.
