The first one would cost the Pats a 2nd and I'm not sure he's been medically cleared yet by the Ravens but if he's healthy he would be a nice fit at S. Maybe we can work out a deal involving a lower pick with the Ravens.
The other two are low cost, fill a specific role type of players that I could also see fitting in nicely with the Pats. Those two are not name FAs but players I believe can make a significant contribution to the Pats without costing big $.
1.) SS Dawan Landry
6-0, 220, 26 yrs old, Exp 3 yrs, Georgia Tech
RFA who was tendered at a 2nd Rd level by the Ravens. Very productive player in his first two seasons in the league before suffering a spinal cord concussion which ended his 2008 season after only two games. Has good size and displays good instincts. He is effective near the los vs the run and has good route awareness in coverage. Solid starting SS.
2.) LB Kevin Burnett
6-3, 242, 26 yrs old, Exp 4 yrs, Tennessee
Burnett was mostly backup in Dallas who played in sub packages. He's better vs the pass than vs the run at this point in his career but he's young and with some solid NE coaching he can get better using his hands and improve vs the run. He's also an effective blitzer.
3.) DE Michael Montgomery
6-5, 275 lbs, 25 yrs old, Exp 4 yrs, Texas A&M
Rotational backup with flexibility, having played both end spots. He is a bit undersized but is a good athlete with pass rush skills. He's mostly contributed as a rusher in sub packages with the Packers. Hard worker, competititor who always plays hard. Has good natural pass rush skills because of a solid first step with speed to close. Looks like a younger version of Jarvis Green and could make him expendable resulting in a cap savings of $2.5 mil. Green struggled last year after putting together his two best seasons in 2006 and 2007. Green is 30 yrs old and could be declining.
