Cassel/Vrabel trade signals Pats will be players in FA market

We unloaded Cassel's huge cap room as soon as possible because we want to play in the FA market. This is maybe the biggest reason why we didn't wait things out and try to get another high pick for Cassel.

As mgteich said in another thread:
[This free agency period is critical to this year and next, since we may or may not be able to sign free agents next year. And even if we can, Kraft would rather sign free agents now than in possible uncapped market.]

When I start seeing some good signings I'll feel better...

And Taylor, Baker and TBC signed!
And Woods tendered!

Are we better off than a week ago? Ya think!!!!!!!

We made the trade now to unload Cassel's cap room because we are going to be major players in free agency this year... and the draft should also be interesting

I agree completely, thought all along that a #3 pick would not fit into the economy of the way the Pats do business... there will be more signings here.. Peppers?? Extend Wilfork??? This is just the beginning.. everything is ok.. Taylor and Baker are welcome additions..

Not if we draft another Chad Jackson .

Only if the wobbly MCL of Brady's is 100% by July.

I totally agree, now we have cap space and draft picks galore. Even if we had gotten the third overall pick we all know BB would have traded it for lower picks anyways.

Major players? Are there major players out there to spend on?

That's right. Believe it or not Today is only the SECOND day of free agency. The Pats unloaded Cassel quick, accepting lesser value to free up the cap room quicker. Lots of free agents out there that could help this team.

just think the offense is good, we just need a WR.
and what if the pats go after ray lewis or peppers?
this is def going to be a defense draft.
we needed to start getting younger, yes we all loved vrabel.
but at some point you have to let go.

Not really. That is why a lot of us were hoping the Pats acquired the 3rd pick in the draft to take Curry or a stud O-lineman.

Ok, now I want my left tackle, damn it!

When i think about it the smart thing to do was take the 2nd and clear up cap space early. I still think theres another big move coming, trading Cassel for a second fast plus unloading Vrables 3 million for more cap room tells me so.

Is everyone like me....watching the sports wires and going online to see
What we do next?

You kwow there we will make more moves before the draft. Everytime I go out I think i'll miss something.

But what? I hope they don't trade for Peppers because of the risk factor. I don't see the Pats doing anything. They had a bunch of cap room last season and they didn't do anything.

I hope we can add Bodden to the mix now. I think we trade spots on draft day. There's a lot of flexibility with four draft picks in the first sixty.

100% agree.

I'm also hoping that the Vrabel trade means that Crable's ready to make some significant progress. Fingers crossed.

I'm actually just as concerned about middle linebacker this season: plenty of bodies at OLB (ability TBD), but besides Bruschi and Mayo, who's in the middle?
