As a 3-4 ILB, I am not sold on Curry because we have Mayo in that spot.

As a 3-4 OLB I don't even have Curry on the board.

For the next Vrabel as a pass rusher, Mathews and/or Barwin can fit the bill.

As a 3-4 OLB that can run support or cover, Mathews and Barwin scare me.

Although having Mathews, Thomas, May and Barwin at LB in 2009 does not sound all that bad if BB could work his magic on the youngsters as far an run support and coverage is concerned.

The beauty is that Mathews and Barwin can play ST as well.

The one class I had with him he was there almost every day. Never really got to talk to him too much but seemed very humble and very hardworking. I like his versatility on the field too.

BB convinced himself between Barwin, Mathews, Cushing, etc, he can get what he wants at 23???, BB considers all to be very similar grade

And it was a postional upgrade he was aiming for, and the numbers all fell into place.

I don't see the three as being equivalent. Cushing and Matthews are similar, though I'd rate them as better 4-3 prospects then 3-4. Barwin is head and shoulders above the other two. Other 3-4 prospects I'd consider pretty good fallback options if Barwin gets tabbed by someone else: Everette Brown, Clint Sintim, Cody Brown in the first three rounds, and of course Aaron Curry if BB does accept a Top 5 draft pick for Cassel.

All things being equal with whatever happens with Cassel, I could see BB sitting there at #23 with 4 or 5 legitimate 3-4 OLB options and deciding to trade down 4 to 6 spots and still getting a player like Sintim or Cushings.

I don't see him playing the Mike either, and Mayo's too good in the Jack to move him. I actually project Curry as a 3-4 Sam. I think he would have to start out as the Will though, as he's highly unlikely to be better than Adalius for a while.

Adalius would be the Mike though, if we did draft Curry. Then Woods/Crable/Redd/Robertson vying for Will.

That would be freakin awesome. Plus the 4-3 sets could have Thomas at DE and Curry-Mayo-Guyton as LB's that could really cover the field.

I like Curry a whole lot. I project him to be a high impact player with starting potential right away. Kid could be super special imo.

After him I like Connor Barwin, his workouts were pretty incredible with wr like 3 cone and vertical jumps. How can we not gamble on this guy if he passes all of Belichicks tests?

Sintim I like, English not so much.

I don't know why I hold a grudge against USC LB's but I do. I don't hate their school or their program. It's one of the best in the country. If anything Keith Rivers should of proved me wrong last season being right behind Mayo in the ROY voting. I was vehemently against going after Rivers last draft. I guess it's the fact that they have so much talent that you just have a hard time determining who is benefiting from who? Maybe they are all good for all I know. But for those reasons I don't like Melagua,Cushing or Mathews in the first round.

It seems many people on the board have the same idea. They seem to forget that our defense got a lot better in 2007 after we moved Adalius to OLB and put Seau at every down ILB. He was our best pass rusher in the second half of the season. I'd rather leave him there. Especially with Vrabel gone. It's a moot point now, given that the trade was for the 2nd rounder, but our best lineup would have been Thomas, Bruschi, Mayo, Woods...with Guyton backing up the ILBs and Curry backing up the OLBs.
