I really hate that Vrabel is gone.He has been a great player for the Patriots. What did the Pats get? I know free agency just started , be patient. I see the Jets getting better on defense and the Pats getting worse. I hope keeping Cassel works out well. I am sure they know what they are doing. Doesnt mean it will work out the way they want it to.

Well last year at this time we were pissed that we were losing Assante and Donte Stallworth, and moss has not signed yet.. But this Vrabel thing was unexpected, and I thought both Gaff and Lonnie would resign.. I think WR is a need now , a third down, with Washington being waved as well.. I think this Vrabel has to be more if its not its confusing..

well seeing how the season does not start tomorrow, i think that you shouldn't be too alarmed. vrabel was in clear decline. hes a great leader and did a hell of a lot for this franchise, but its a business. and on the jets, im sorry, but bart scott is not worth 48 million dollars. sheppard was a good pickup though.

this is only one day. In Bill I trust.

I didn't think today was a bad day for the Pats at least until we see how the Vrabel and Cassel thing plays out. If the Pats use Vrabel to parlay it into a trade for Peppers with Cassel (not exactly what I want, but a popular sentiment), people on this board will be jumping for joy and Patriots haters will be stewing.

Also, other than the Jets getting Bart Scott which they had to overpay to get because rumor was Tannebaum peissed off Scott, the Jets didn't have that great of a day. Lito Sheppard isn't Champ Bailey. He is a good, not great CB. An upgrade from what they had no doubt, but not a CB that I would fear if I was a QB.

Wow. Relax, man. The Patriots got the best value on the board, and another good one in Chris Baker. And they got something for a 34-year old LB, who I love but who is getting up there and slowing down - while looking at a draft loaded with OLB prospects, and a roster with at least one guy with decent upside in Pierre Woods.

The jets, meanwhile, signed a very good LB who will do nothing to make them anywhere close to beating out the Pats in the AFC East. Which means they have to beat out Baltimore/Pittsburgh or Indy/Tennessee for a wild card.

They are spinning their wheels, playing Ewing to our Jordan. They have no shot, so all they're doing is getting their fans' hopes up and distracting some from the fact that - wait for it... - THEY HAVE NO QUARTERBACK!

Take a breath. This is EXACTLY the kind of first day you want to have.

It's really odd that still nobody knows what the Pats got for Vrabel. So far, I like the Fred Taylor and Baker signing but we have to wait and see what they do on defense. Losing Vrabel will actually be a good thing. His play last season was really poor and the Pats need to get some speed on defense. I'm sure the Pats know what their doing and don't plan on having Pierre Woods or TBC take over at OLB. Don't worry, something's going down. We have to be patient.

BTW, the Redskins went like 5 straight years winning the Free Agency Super Bowl and not even sniffing the real playoffs. It was one day of the free agency and we don't even know what the Pats got for Vrabel. It could be Vrabel and Cassel for the 3rd overall pick and another pick. That would make it a great day for the Pats.

Ok, let's see.... The Patriots needs at the end of last year were:

Tight end
Running back (Jordan was leaving)
Wide receiver (Gaffney's contract was up)
Safety
Cornerback
Linebacker (?)
Long snapper

So, in the first day of free agency, the team has already addressed 2 of the 7 areas of need, and it's done so apparently without overspending, while also picking up an undisclosed draft pick. I don't know how that's "sucked".....

Chriss Baker the TD Maker!

You should feel good about him, not a big splashy name but he will do good in the Pats offense without breaking the bank.

Fred Taylor is not a bad value either.

From a fan of Vrabel's standpoint, it sucks to see him leave. I don't know if from a purely emotionless business decision to make this team better that it was the wrong thing even if it was a fourth round pick. If the Pats ultimately end up replacing him with Peppers or Curry or someone else who is potentially a significant upgrade and 5 to 12 years younger, it may make this team a contender for four or five more years.

Vrabel is getting close to the end of the road and is a free agent after this season. If he was a Patriot this upcoming season, there is no guarantee he would be after that.

Because two of the players many of us expected to fill those needs are no longer available, and that extra draft pick came at the cost of arguably increasing the need at LB.
