CB:
The Pats have only 4 corners under contract with the veteran being 4th year man Ellis Hobbs. The other Wheatley is returning from a broken left wrist. Wilhite showed a lot of promise. As did Mike Richardson.

OJ Otogwe was franchised by the Rams and Asomugha, for all his whining about Oakland, signed a 3 year deal to stay there. Here are the CBs that I think the Pats will focus on:

KFFL - 2009 NFL Free Agents

Jabari Greer – Buffalo
Bryan McFadden – Pittsburgh
Leigh Bodden – Detroit
Fakhir Brown – St. Louis- Character issues that could be a flag.

Phillip Buchanon – Tampa
Courtland Finnegan, RFA – Tennessee
Domenic Foxworth – Atlanta
Chris Gamble – Caroline - Shouldn't be on KFFL's list..He did get an extension. as mentioned by Mmasterkillah
Sam Madison – NY Giants
Chris McCallister – Baltimore
Karl Paymah – Denver
Patrick Surtain – Kansas City

Some of these guys are old veterans. Some are youngsters who are just coming into their own.

otogwe's a safety, why was he even mentioned in your post?

It doesn't really matter, does it? If you must know, I was originally going to do the DBs and Safeties in one post.

Now, what does it matter to a Chargers fan like you? This is talking about Free Agents of interest to the Patriots.

After reading that Bryan McFadden will get a 5 year $30 M deal I am expecting a great big JAG sandwich. Some one who will play for veteran minimum like Lewis Sanders.

This difference this year is that when they bring in a player like Duane Starks, Delta O'Neil or Fernando Bryant I will be on to them. They will tell me it is chicken salad and I will tell them it is chicken sh-t. I wouldn't be fooled this time.

No interest in Corey Ivy?

Tough enough kid that has played steady ball since the Buc's. Nothing superstar about him, but certainly improved since his last time here. Might be fiscally reasonable too.

Chris Gamble got a big deal to re-sign with Carolina a while ago.

Leigh Bodden is set to visit.. It will be interesting to see if anyone else is brought in for the CB position.

It will be interesting to see if Bodden's time in Detroit can sell him on New England...and maybe a little cheaper than guys are signing around the league.

JAG sammiges haven't tasted very good lately, that's for sure. I too am sick of the 30+, injury-prone has-beens, and the over-drafted never-were's, masqerading as DBs for the NEP.

Has McFadden signed?

I've always liked Sam Madison although he is getting up in age a bit,I think he would fit with this team.

Anyone else find it very interesting that the CBs have been very slow to sign. Beyond Hall re-signing with the Skins, Foxworth signing with the Ravens, Ivy signing with the Jets, and Bartell re-signing with the Rams, things have been very quiet.

Things have been too quiet. Our team should find some defensive backs.

Finnegan isn't an RFA, unfortunately, as he's an absolute stud. He signed a 4 year deal last off-season, from Rotoworld:
Titans signed CB Cortland Finnegan to a new four-year, $16.8 million contract. The deal includes a $6 million signing bonus.

A move that shows great foresight in an outrageous market at the position. Finnegan, 24, was a seventh-round pick out of I-AA Stamford in 2006. He's developed into arguably the NFL's top run-stopping corner, leading the league in tackles by CBs with 95 in 2007. Finnegan can also return punts and play safety in a pinch. He'll be free to strike it rich again at age 28.
Cortland Finnegan

We need a CB badlyyyyyyyyyy

We're already in better position than we were going into last season. I think the second seasons of Wheatley, Wilhite and Richardson are more promising than combined prospects of the motley crew of retreads we broke camp with in 2008.

He is 2 years past being a fit for the Giants so that makes him a fit for us?

James Sanders has signed, what more do you want?
Good, can we trade him now? Maybe the Browns or Eagles give up a forth or fifth rounder?
