Re: Paxton to Broncos

Ok, so longsnapper is now officially a need. Are there any centers or guards in this year's draft that can longsnap?

Re: Paxton to Broncos

im sorry but i dont care about this one. paxton is a good snapper, but over $1M per year, which is what he probably got is too much in my opinion

Re: Paxton to Broncos

Perhaps we will re-sign Hochstein and a draft choice OL, and carry 10 OL's (we do now counting Paxton). If we are comfortable with one of the guard/centers as a long-snapper (or Hochstein), we can draft one and have additional insurance against Neal and/or Mankins going elsewhere after this season.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

So much for the long snapper position not being an area of concern because the Pats will "just re-sign Paxton."

Anyone else want to flame me for thinking that Long Snapper is an area for concern?

Yes. Your suggesting it made it come true. :enranged:

 Maybe the other stuff I suggested will come true.. Sean Smith at #23... Barwin at 48... Gilbert at 59 (or whatever the pick it)..

One could only hope.. hmmm.. maybe I should suggest I am going to win the lottery.. ... That sounds good... :p

Seriously, though, I concede you were right; although I'm not sure if that particular discussion occurred before or after JMcD decamped for the Donkeys (in which case I should have seen this as a distinct possibility).

It was well before.. It was in my first off-season free agency preview and in my draft thread... People weren't happy that I considered Long Snapper to be the #6 priority..

Re: Paxton to Broncos

Updating previous reports, Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Denver Broncos have signed unrestricted free-agent LS Lonie Paxton (Patriots) to a five-year deal worth $5.3 million. The contract includes a $1 million signing bonus.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

IIRC David Thomas longsnapped in college for Texas.
Bingo, which may help explain the Baker move...

There are some good LS in this draft class too.

That would make it a 5 year deal for the vet minimum each of those years.. with the million up front.

Not a bad deal at all..I wish the Pats would have done that, honestly. It certainly wouldn't have broken the bank.

If I recall, David Thomas played football in college for Texas, as well...

Too bad. Incredibly reliable. For want of a snap, a game was lost, say the New York Giants.

Aren't guys like McDaniels sort of supposed to give us a chance to re-sign our own players? Where is the honor, Josh? Where is the honor?

Part of the cost of franchising Cassel, I think. :(

I have to agree here; I'm sure the money that the Broncos gave him is more than the Patriots have slotted for a long snapper. It's an important position, no doubt, but I'm sure there are good ones who can step in and play the position at a much lower cost.

As I pointed out. Paxton will be making the vet minimum for salary in each of the years he's signed for. The million signing bonus was just little bit of grease to get him this way. And, considering how a mis-snap can lose a critical game, I think the mil is worth it.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

NOT the end of the world....would have been nice...Mrs B I think will not be happy...but??? I feel a lot worse about Vrabes than Lonie...although..I am sure another can be found that will be fine...Ch-ch-ch-changes!!!!

Only if the replacement long snapper is more likely to make a mis-snap. Its not lonnie has never blown a snap.

When was the last time he did (not counting intentional safeties)?

Re: Paxton to Broncos

They just signed our %!@$% safety (Brian Dawkins), too!
