Re: Paxton to Broncos

Damn WTF why just let him go.....Now we should really got Hochstein back as he was always the back up long snapper along with back up everything else.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

Fhat the wuck?!?!?!?

Re: Paxton to Broncos

That is a serious shame.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

oh well. plenty of long snappers available in day 2

Re: Paxton to Broncos

that's not a good news

Re: Paxton to Broncos

Can't fight for key players when u have 15 mil tied up with a backup.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

So much for the long snapper position not being an area of concern because the Pats will "just re-sign Paxton."

Anyone else want to flame me for thinking that Long Snapper is an area for concern?

Re: Paxton to Broncos

See how much he gets first.

Good luck to the original snow angel.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

It's not like he can not be replaced...

No - need to exercise cost control with the bottom half of your roster in order to field a perennial contender.

Paxton was a great LS and he carried his weight, but I wouldn't characterize him as one of our "key players". If he were, we would have never let him go to FA. Clearly Denver is offering him more than we were willing to spend, and he's just a casualty of how we do business. Good luck to him, and we move on.

Personally, I would be thrilled if we got a LS who could actually contribute as a backup at a position, saving a roster spot.

I think that's a hefty long-shot. Are there any at all in the NFL?

Re: Paxton to Broncos

This sucks, but at least it is a long snapper and not a key starter.

I am pretty sure that most teams have dedicated long snappers. And even if they could contibute, they are so far down the depth chart, that they won't see the field. Why? Because the art of longsnapping is just that. An art. If you lose that player, its unlikely that you have someone as skilled in doing it on the roster to replace them. Look what happened in 2004. The Pats lost Paxton. Then lost the guy they brought in. Then they had to get Brian Kinchen to long snap for them. And I think Kinchen had been out of football for the better part of 2 years.

Its not a matter of whether or not he can be replaced. Its a matter of people thinking that the longsnapper position is an easy one to fill.

His position can be filled with lots of guys who can center the ball over

the punter and kick holder's head.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

For years Paxton has been reliable but for years I've also been hoping the Pats can get a true center/guard that handle that duty. It frees up a roster spot that Paxton held hostage. Time to read up on this year's deep crop of centers.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

I wonder if we would've resigned him if Seely was still here. Either way, not exactly bummed out by the move, LSers are replaceable.

Re: Paxton to Broncos

IIRC David Thomas longsnapped in college for Texas.
