Tis the season, any last second cuts by the Pats?

Vrabel would be a shock but in this economy no one is safe. Deep year OLB in the draft hurts as well.

Faulk could be released as well.

That would clear up $6-$7 M but man would it suck.

After I posted I did a little research. You're right about midnight.

Faulk could end up being a casualty, as releasing him would save $3.5M according to Adam Schefter.

However, one would think the Patriots would work out a new contract with him to deal with that, as he is still a valuable role player.

That said, I think people take the reports of cap room too seriously. Granted, the Pats have less room than pretty much everyone because they are playing top QB money to two guys. However, if there was a room that they really wanted to make, the cap wouldn't stop them. They could restructure deals or cut a guy or something to make the room. The cap wouldn't be an issue to making a deal.

Agreed. Faulk was awesome last year.

Personally, I'd rather see Bru hang 'em up and move a recovered Vrabes inside, though. He was playing with a frigged up shoulder last year.

51 instead of 53.

In any case, Vrabel is, per Miguel, owed $1M tomorrow morning, so if they want to cut him--which is doubtful--they'd have to do it tonight. Faulk they might well just restructure to reduce his cap hit by $1-2M.

According to Tom Marino if these players are cut or left to go FA we free up $16,647,000, not including a Cassel trade.

It is not; see the spending limit thread. In fact, it's one of the dumbest things I've read in a while. Not sure what Tom Marino is thinking.

I don't see Vrabel being cut especially since work was he was playing all last year with an injury. I think Bruschi would be pressured into retiring before Vrabel was cut. Bruschi was less productive than Vrabel last year and would save about $2 million.

Jarvis Green could be another cap casualty or traded player. He is a solid back up, but he is also the sixth largest cap hit if you don't count Cassel. That may be too much for a back up. If the Pats resign Wright, I think Green will be gone. Could be part of a trade to Carolina if the rumors of the Pats going after Peppers is true.

Nick Kuzcur could be another cut. He is basically a JAG RT and could free up a little over $1 million.

Other moves they can do is convert Brady's ($3 million) roster bonus into a signing bonus to spread it out over the remainder of his contract or give extentions to Vrabel, Faulk, and a few others who are likely to finish their careers as Patriots to lower their cap.

Creating a need at RT, one which will be filled for a player who will be paid...a little over $1 million.

And Bruschi's cap savings would be less if he retires, since the Pats aren't going to ask for his signing bonus money back.
