BUCS PART WAYS WITH DERRICK BROOKS AND OTHERS
Posted by Mike Florio on February 25, 2009, 1:16 p.m.

Despite having $50 million or more in cap space, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have embarked on a youth movement, which apparently has put in jeopardy anyone on the roster older than the head coach.

According to Pewter Report, the Bucs are releasing linebacker Derrick Brooks, receiver Joey Galloway, linebacker Cato June, and running back Warrick Dunn.

Get Dunn over Taylor and get Brooks a medical. There might be something up there.

And after Brooks and Dunn, who next? Brad Paisley? :bricks:

At this point, Dunn doesn't fulfill any role that Kevin Faulk doesn't already fill better. Brooks is too small for this defense and he's in the dog days of his career. Cato June, same thing, though he might end up back with the Colts as he's still relatively young. Galloway's career is done.

I'ld take Brooks at the right price

The burner there might fit nice with Welk and Moss

Brooks was drafted in 95, has played as a star most of his career, and has never missed a game. Damn, that's impressive for a LB.

He is also a great community guy as well.. not sure about his age though.

im just saying BB has a way with old linebackers.

Arent we tired of LBs who are close to collecting Social Security?

Brooks was a beast his whole career, especially teaming up with Sapp in the Championship year - His best days are over IMO

Situational player at best in this system

Brooks has absolutely lost a step or two the last couple of years and has played his entire career in a different defensive scheme than what the Pats use. He does, however, have superior football intelligence and instincts. He's a high character guy but I just don't know if he's the right fit for the Pats' defense. Also, he's played all his football in Florida (Tampa Bay, Florida State, went to high school in FL) so I don't know that he's going to be too eager to play anywhere else at this point.

He was allways a good cover LB too though I don't know about that this late in his career. Anyone know how he would fit in our 3-4? He would seem a little undersized no?

Junior Seau, Roman Phifer...

No why would I get tired of the contributions those older guys make. Seau, Cox, Phifer and the like have done a lot for us and I expect that as Vrabel and Thomas start to get up there they will too Bru is now. If you still want to play and you can contribute like those above can than why not and I suspect Brooks could though I question the fit in the system.

Dunn had 1,116 total yards and 2 TD's last year.

Taylor had 664 total yards and 1 TD.

Just saying. I don't know honestly know which is better, but Dunn has better rec. yards - more of a dual threat..

Also, I have a friend who's a Bucs fan and he love Galloway - believes his speed remains ridiculous. Maybe he's the opposite side deep threat we always wanted and could be had for nickels. Probably be a better value than Marvin ever would if we want a vet who brings something to the table.

With Galloway you have to decide if last year was a down year due to injuries or if he is at the end.....but he likely would be much cheaper than Harrison.

At the right price this would be OK

Your friend is right, Galloway is still just as fast as ever, even though he's now 37 years old. The concern is his health; he's had a history of hamstring issues, and that type of thing is more likely to happen again at his age. He was only able to get on the field for five games, and for 13 catches last year.

Galloway, if healthy, would bring everything that Stallworth was supposed to bring when we signed him.

Joey was one of the better natural athletes I have ever seen, as he was timed running a 4.18 before, and benched 415 that same day weighing 185. Granted this was in 1995, when he was at Ohio State, but I know that prior to last year, Joey still could absolutely BURN.

Sign him up!

Patriots Extreme Makeover:

Joey Galloway
Fred Taylor
Derrick Brooks
Jason Taylor

Hell, pull off that foursome, and find a safety/corner, and you can mail in 14 wins this season.

Looks like they're freeing up room for a big free agency haul. Haynesworth, maybe?
