"Anytime he talks, it’s a winning situation. And Sunday was an all-time classic. In what could only be described as a ship roaming the open sea, Belichick opened his meeting with the media – the first time in my eight years at the combine I can recall him meeting with the media – with a 12-minute statement. It touched on seemingly all things … his coaching tree … the coaches whom he’s surprised aren’t in the league right now … the combine in general … even a story about the time he watched William “Refrigerator” Perry do his vertical jump many, many years ago.

And all of this came before a single member of the media could ask a question. Thank goodness someone finally did, or Belichick would probably be getting to his thoughts on the economic stimulus plan right about now."

Wonder why BB so uncharacteristically spouted off like that?

Maybe he's going senile.:eek::)

I hate William "Refridgerator" Perry

but everything else he said was gold

I'll tell you the REAL reason he's the combine winner : Matt Cassel's competition (Stafford, Sanchez) was nothing to write home about. And, since they were mediocre at best, the potential 1st round QBs did nothing to inspire GMs across the league and might have driven up Cassel's value.

BB. Winner.

Maybe he thinks that if he starts droning on incessantly, eventually they'll stop evne wanting to ask him questions. Shrewd thinking, Belichick, but I'm on to you.

Once he gets in a nostalgic mood, he doesn't shut up.

Someone must have said something to him earlier that day. Remember the time someone asked him like a 10 word question about Ted Marchibroda or something? Or when he was asked about his memories in Giants Stadium? His answers went on for multiple paragraphs.

Bill loves football. When he's been on PFW and what-not, he's been quite interesting. I just think he hates speculation and people wasting his time.

"Wanna talk football? Awesome. If not? Go away. Won't go away? I'ma git all Sean Penn on your a$s!" (yes, I'm really that old).

I was watching NFLN and when BBs' comments were brought up to Gruden and Marriucci, they were beaming, especially Gruden.
Coach's word carries much weight.

I saw that too. You have to remember that BB has been in the NFL for over 30 years! So when he says something, NFL people listen. He is a caoch's son, and you have to remember that yes even BB has been fired. I'm sure that he looks at guys like Gruden and Shanahan, who have won Superbowls and wonders how they can be shown the door, and Brad Childress is a NFL HC.

BB is well respected and liked amoungst football people, don't let the press' slanted view of him fool you.
