Harrison has been declining and will only continue to get worse before he gets better. This is the best thing that could happen for the colts. At the very least, in the long run.

Actually our passing offense will be better without Peyton forcing balls to Marvin I believe. It was painful to watch.

I watch every Colts game a million times, Peyton had his best game of the season without Marvin against the Jags. We played 2007 without Marv.
He had a bad attitude lately IMO and its time to move on. Gonzalez is going into his third year and with him, Wayne and Clark we have more than enough passing weapons then we will add one in the draft.

Thanks for the memories Marv, but this is a business.

He was released for a reason - too expensive and over the hill. That's harsh but the NFL is a business.

Gonzalez will now have to play on the outside for the entire game, and the Colts have just become much easier to game plan.

I personally do not think it ended well with Harrison and Polian.

Re: Harrison Released

Change it to Marvin or Colts or something... I was terrified we released Rodney for injury reasons or something.

Same. This had me nervous for a second.

Gonzalez was playing on the outside for most of 2007 as a rookie. And he did last year as well many times, we move a lot of guys into the slot including Clark and Wayne. You don't think he can handle it? He is more than ready going into his third year. Both he and Peyton both said they prefer him on the outside. No team was scared of Marvin on the Colts anymore.

We will likely end up possibly drafting Nicks or Britt in the first round. I don't think a DT worth the first pick will be there when we choose.

Colts were incredibly easy to gameplan for last year without a running game btw and teams still could not stop Peyton.

Rodney's a free agent, so that's one headline that you won't have to worry about :p

It did, right about the time Marvin realized that Polian inked a contact with Peyton that would eventualy make his salary decrease.

Why do people make such a big deal over Peytons contract after all he does for the team and you see contracts like the one Big Ben and Eli have and others?

If you want to complain about a contract on the Colts complain about someone like Bob Sanders who misses so many games.

Marvin is simply not worth being paid much at this point in his career, many declining veterans are not. They might think they are worth it, but they are not.

Perhaps people feel we overpaid for Hayden. However he is a 25 year old corner on the rise who is one of the reasons our passing defense is so good.

It's a harsh business and often well known vets have to go, the ones who you cannot live without are the ones who should get paid and usually they are in their prime when they get paid. Thats why Peyton and Freeney became the highest paid at their positions and they would have been paid pretty well on the market.

There was absolutely no way in the world Harrison could stay on this roster with his current contract: he had a base salary of $9 million, counted $13.4 million against the cap, and the Colts have no cap space.

But the report that jumps out at me is that the Colts wanted to restructure his contract, yet Harrison refused? I don't know the details of the restructure, but if Harrison could make that $9 million over two years rather than one, I'd say he should have jumped all over it. I have a feeling that he's placing his value around the NFL a lot higher than it actually is. Based on his performance the last two years, I don't see a lot of teams paying big bucks to a 36 year-old receiver.

I always wondered why he just sat on the end of the bench without talking to anyone. Maybe that will finally come out.

While I dont feel we have heard the whole story (and Marv does not speak much to the media) I am a little agitated by how this appeared to have gone down. He is coming off two poor seasons and the team has paid him well and praised him endlessly. I would have thought he would play another year or two possibly for a fair deal.

I guess he does feel he still has more to offer and they said he is determined to play. I guess he feels slighted in a way by Wayne becoming the #1 over the years and Gonzalez getting more looks from Peyton. If its an ego thing I will never understand. The wide receiver ego mess hits even the quiet ones but with all his controversy in Philly I feel there is more to him than meets the eye.

I do appreciate what he did with the Colts, but the last season has left a bad taste in my mouth with the surroundings of Harrison. I suppose he feels he deserves to get paid much more than the Colts wanted to pay him. He will be 37 next year and I have personally sensed some "iciness" between him and Manning the last few seasons.

Many of my fellow Colts fans don't want to hear me talk like this, but I cant deny what I think I see between Marvin and a few of the players. I dont feel he has been in the same "group" so to speak with Peyton, Wayne, Clark and Gonzalez. They sit on the bench together and Marvin sulks off.

polian will find another good WR like he found wayne and clark and gonzalez in the draft. colts wont miss much in the long run.

This year is better than most when it comes to receivers in the draft. I'm just wondering who is going to pony up more money than the Colts were going to pay him. His agent must think somebody will.

Gee wiz, I don't know. Perhaps because $21.2 Million for one guy is..well...stupid.

"And no player is worth that much. Not even the league’s MVP."

ProFootballTalk.com - MANNING CARRIES $21.2 MILLION CAP NUMBER INTO 2009

BTW -For the record, I think Manning is an incredible QB. Don't like him, but respect his ability.
