Since Patchick hasn't posted this ... getting ready for Tuesday! Please feel free to merge this into a more "official" thread if desired.

Some bench press numbers up:

Vontae Davis - 25 reps
Coye Francies - 24
Derek Pegues - 23 (listed as a CB not a S)
Joe Burnet - 22

Kevin Ellison - 32 reps!
Patrick Chung - 25

All better than Michael Oher (21 reps) and most better than Eugene Monroe (23).

Wow they are strong! Do you think Pegues can play effectively as CB?

Not as a first choice, but he can hum it and dance a few steps.

Was going to separate out CBs and safeties, but didn't want y'all to have to talk about Sean Smith twice. :)

I think this is what a lot of us have been waiting for. I know I hope to get a Safety and a CB out of the first 2 or 3 RDs

Patchick, I started a thread on this earlier today - got tired of waiting. Can you merge it in so that we have 1 DB thread?

Sorry, looked for one and somehow missed it! All merged and tidy now.

Anyway...hard to know what to think about DB bench reps, given that Meriweather put up a whopping 11.

Wow, 32 is amazing for a S.

Hopefully Sean Smith runs the fantastically, but I really am not sure what to expect. I hope that the DBs impress tomorrow, because honestly, I have not been overly impressed with the average athlete at this year's combine as opposed to the past few.

After Connor Barwin yesterday, I'm not sure I want Sean Smith to blow up the combine. I'd settle for a decent performance - 4.45 speed, good agility and a reasonable performance in the drills, especially regarding his ball skills.

I have been thinking about this. I believe Bill is, and has been, looking for CB/S "tweeners". There are actually several guys listed as corners that can play safety. Guys like Cary Harris, Macho Harris, Keenan Lewis, DeAngelo Smith, Sean Smith and even Louis Delmas. All are listed as CB on NFL.com but I see them as safeties.

We all know Bill likes the Smurfs for pure CB. The Smurfs I'm looking at are Asher Allen, Bruce Johnson, DJ Moore, Alphonso Smith.

Edit:
I forgot CJ Spillman and Rashad Johnson as tweener safeties.

The best result here, for me, would be if Vontae Davis and some other guys outperform Malcolm Jenkins. He really could be our CB/S hybrid. I don't know his character but he seems like a real team player. I want him to drop to within striking distance of #23.

Interesting note about JaMarcus Sanford's bench. Did anyone see his technique on his reps? It was a very narrow-grip bench press, with his elbows in tight to the body. What does this mean? It means he is moving the weight more with his triceps, inner pecs and front delts and less with his middle and outer pecs. This is a very sport-specific permutation of the lift. It shows me that he is training in a very sport-specific manner for his combine, and his time in the weight room will translate to functional playing strength.

[/meathead geekout]

Darius Butler running an unofficial 4.45

Chung with a 4.51

Patrick Chung 4.51 - good time

Vernon Gholston of DB's with a 4.43

Vontae Davis - 4.43. Thought he'd be faster.

Delmas with a 4.5
