This report will do nothing but increase the value of Matt Cassel

They say Pat White should move to receiver.

Today Don Banks of SI reported that he was the best QB at the combine.

Mark Sanchez, who was decent but far from spectacular, or Georgia's Matthew Stafford, the top-rated passer who ran a solid 40-yard dash (low 4.8s) but declined to throw here with the rest of the draft's quarterbacks.

-- Southern Cal's Sanchez did nothing to make anyone believe he's top 10 material at this point. He struggled quite a bit on passes he threw outside the numbers, near the sidelines, and only looked great on slant patterns. I expect any potential chatter about Sanchez being a real option for the Lions at No. 1 to all but evaporate unless he has a boffo pro day workout next month.

-- Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman was thought to be someone who could really improve his draft projection based on his throwing session, but he was erratic in the drills and probably did nothing to help himself crack the first round.

-- Ball State quarterback Nate Davis wasn't too impressive either and is probably still in the range of the third round in terms of his draft status.

Yeah, i don't care about White either, but the fact the other QBs pretty much sucked does help cassel's stock. Hopefully teams now get into a bidding war and maybe we can get some pretty good picks. I do think he'll be a day one pick, but hust not a threat for Cassel in any kind of way

I think some team is going to find a gem in Pat White, for some reason. He probably won't go until late Day 1 or Day 2 and won't have a defined position but the guy is wicked fast and didn't have a defined position in college. He was a running back that could throw the ball as well. He's also shifty and has pretty good instincts.

I dunno I think he could go in round 2. He made all the throws and obviously can run. The height really shouldn't be an issue. The long delivery is something that can be worked on.

All of this was true. Pat White out-combined Mark Sanchez. I watched all of it, both of their 40's, the quick-out and quick-in-cut throws as well as the deep sideline fades. Pat White was much more accurate and had as much zip on his ball than Sanchez. White's arm was impressive and accurate.

No question, Sanchez needs work, whoever takes him better be prepared for alot of growing pains. I'm sure Stafford is going to really impress on his pro-day and will cement his spot over Sanchez, but I think after yesterday's showing, that's already the case, and really was anyway even before the combine. Sanchez has a strong arm, but the accuracy was off. He needs work and a team that has alot of patience.

Regardless, it's all meaningless as someone pointed out, because Pat White will be drafted as a "specialist" and only that. A guy that can Wild Cat, option and put on alot of different hats. He will be a major asset to whoever takes him. The kid really impressed me. His height kills him, like everything else in life when it comes to sports "height is everything".

That still doesn't take away from the fact that he kicked Sanchez's tail at the combine..............

Totally agree -- this is a VERY weak QB class. The fact that the only guy who made a real impression is just 6'0" 197 (compared to last year's combine stars like Flacco & O'Connell) has to be sobering for QB-hungry teams.

People won't spend a 3rd on a WR who has never played the position, but there are teams who will see him as a Jason Campbell type.

Something else about White: he's a winner!

Stafford is young, shorter then thought, and inaccurate in his throws.

Sanchez looks like a second day QB pick. Freeman the JESTS big hope at #17, is a sixth or seventh rounder.

All these obsrvations are based on a "normal" year. Some doofus teams wil still pick them and weil be still looking for a QB three years later, and getting ready to draft ano0ther one. Things never change.

Oh yeah, god, no one would ever do that. They might spend a first on a WR who has never played the position, though. Or a second.

Of course, Matt Jones has done next to nothing in his career thus far, but it's happened before. I see White as more of a Randle El type, but he'll probably go early on the 2nd day.

I'm talking about this year's draft, which is deep. Teams won't be taking chances on reaches in the first three rounds.

If an athelete is enough of an athelete and has indications that they are coachable, the QB to WR conversion price tag has historically been anywhere in the draft. So I could see someone taking a shot on White with a 3rd rounder if he proves that he is a relatively low risk conversion project.

Huh? Hines Ward was a proven wide receiver at Georgia with lots and lots of catches and yards. Matt Jones was a "brainfart by the braintrust and a big bust." Can I get a patent on that.

This draft is a lot stronger than the Matt Jones draft.

While I agree that I could see White getting a team to take a flyer on him in the second round, Ward (unlike Jones and Randle El) did play wide receiver in college. In fact, he's ranked second amongst Georgia wide receivers all-time in career receptions and yardage (he only played QB his freshman year, I believe - Mike Bobo and Quincy Carter were there the rest of his time).

White has always intrigued me, because bascially, the kids wins, and you have to take that into account. He is the only college QB everah, to win 4 Bowl Games.

I would love to see the Pats get him in the 4th. He could easily be the #3 QB (Bye Gutz), play WR, and of course WILDCAT!!!!

I'm sure tht BB would break it out, if other than nothing else than to make other teams have to waste practice time accounting for it.

You could make O'Connell the 3rd QB (making him inactive until the 4th quarter) and list White as the 2nd QB and play him wherever.
