1. Name your draft binky and tell us why you like him.

I'm really starting to warm up to Shonn Greene as a power RB. He reminds me of a younger Jerome Bettis. I'm currently trying to justify how to take him for the Pats but I dunno if that will happen over a tight end. As always my opinion is subject to change after the Combine.

2. Name the player you think that the Pats should take at pick #23. Try to be realistic.

Right now I'm thinking the Pats take Alphonso Smith at #23. But this may change post combine.

Re: Draft Binkies

1. pre-Senior Bowl it was Laurinaitis, but now I'm starting to lean towards Larry English. I was very impressed with his strength as well as his pass rush ability.

2. Laurinaitis/English are my pre-Combine favorites, so we'll see which one separates themselves over the weekend.

1. I have a number of binkies, but realistic ones include Connor Barwin and Sean Smith.

2. Assuming he works out well and shows good agility and ball skills, I would take Sean Smith at 23. I think he has the most versatility and upside of all of the DBs. Of course, he may look horrible at the combine and he's a bigger risk than Alphonso Smith or DJ Moore, but that's my projection right now.

My current dream scenario:

- Trade Cassel either to Carolina for Julius Peppers or for a high enough pick to get DT BJ Raji
- 1(23): Sean Smith
- 1(47): William Beatty/Eben Britton/Alex Mack
- 1(58): Connor Barwin/Clint Sintim/Larry English

Tony Pauline did not have any of Barwin/Sintim/English in his pre-combine top 50, and Britton/Mack were both ranked in the 40's, so I don't consider this totally outlandish.

I am excited about Eric Woods, C-G from Louisville. Hoping for a second or third round drafting by the Pats.

Agree with the OP, Greene is without doubt the one guy I crave.

Patrick Chung is up there too.

Less realistic but with Cassel's potential trade I am going to say Curry.

if we pick up an extra one I don't see why it isn't possible and think about Getting him the year after Mayo.:D

I want a sack machine, so for #23 Maybin or English, if we trade Cassel for Pepps then DJ Moore/Alphonso Smith

I've never had a binky. :(

I do have favorite players however, and all of them must be 'football players' first, while also possessing strong intangibles. Patrick Chung is currently in the lead.

Good thread.I hope for a Cassel trade to swap picks with K.C. and get their second rounder at #34, but for now:

#23-Sean Smith CB- a tall 6"3" (think-in the Cromartie mold), fluid athlete who has the possibility of being that shut down type corner as the scouts have suggested. He can also be put in to cover the other teams tall receivers on that particular side of the field that Hobbs nor Wheatly can do. (tell me this..Why are we going for another CB that we should have had completed last year, but instead took Wheatly and Wilhite who have been rated as incomplete and not quite busts yet. I know the Pats draft well and can't always hit a home run but the scouts who sold BB and SP on these two are poopy and two misses not just one). Here is who they could have had all around those picks. Some are starting and some not:
6. Brandon Flowers, 5' 10" 190, Virginia Tech*
7. Antoine Cason, 6" 0" 191, Arizona
8. Tracy Porter, 5' 11" 185, Indiana
13. Terrell Thomas, 6' 1" 200, USC
14. Orlando Scandrick, 5' 11" 190, Boise State*
16. Charles Godfrey, 6' 0" 209, Iowa
25. Chevis Jackson, 6' 0" 190, LSU

Enough venting. I would say my alernate binky at #23 is Rey or the Little Animal there.

My second binky;

#47-Clay Matthews ILB-Said he might be better than Rey or Cushing in the pros. Has size to be ILB. Side line to side lines kid. The best LB in the Rose Bowl. Solid ST guy. Can play OLB as well. Think Varbel. Good blood lines.

Third:

#58-James Casey TE. Thought of as a Dallas Clark type TE who can slip to the slot. 106 receptions. 27 reps yesterday on the weights. 6' 4" and 237 lbs.
Great off the field kid. 4.6 speed. A Watson type who can actually catch. Plus 46 rushes out of the Rice Wildcat called "Thor" (his nickname) for 6 TDs and 4.2 yard average. Played QB, DE and safety at Rice. Very smart. Mid second round considered pick. Mature at 25 years old as he was in the White Sox system. Can add another 10-15 lbs and with his strength could be taught more blocking methods. Perfect Pats versatility and character. A serious new weapon for TB.

I will throw in Nik Harris in the third round as our potential starting SS. Don't believe this OLB crap. Could play it as needed (versatility). Can cover very well. 4.5 speed. 6'2" and 233 lbs. He can thump. Also a great citizen.

Casey only ran a 4.7. And I'm hoping that he's NOT a Watson type. I want a TE with hands who can run routes and block. If he's a Watson type, take him off my list. Thanks.

My draft binky is Mike Mickens. I know there is an injury history but he has been super productive and a high character guy. Also he's taller than 5'9"!

At #23 I'm hoping for Tyson Jackson, who is the best 3-4 end I've seen in a draft in a few years. I don't expect Jackson to fall out of the top 20, so I'm looking more at Clay Matthews. He seems to have the right combination, he's from a pro-style system that produces NFL players, he's played against top tier talent, has the physical skills, the production, the bloodlines, leadership, special teams ability, etc. Nobody else in the #20-#30 range fits the Pats system and brings all those tangibles and intangibles to the table.

Rashard Johnson Alabama. Smarts, Instincts and I would take him round 1. Call me Crazy

who else is a better safety in this draft? Do u want to see if we can get "one more yr" out of rodney. If we can ink Sean Jones from Cleveland. Then this wouldn't be a need.

Rashad Johnson is rated a 4th round pick. So drafting just for need is not a good idea. I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him on the second day but his size is also a concern. At 190ish lbs, he's strictly a FS and Meriweather is already a smallish safety at 200 lbs dripping wet. So I'm not sure RJ is the most complementary guy to add to what the Pats already have at the safety position.

I'm also concerned with the report that Rashad Johnson was ARRESTED last year for disorderly conduct. That's definitely a strike for a Kraft organization.

I've gone back and forth between cornerbacks Alphonso Smith and Vontae Davis. I really, really want a corner, but if Maualuga is still on the board, I'd love to see what he could do in a 3-4.

Looking forward to checking out his times, especially his shuttle. Also wonder what Paul Kruger will be able to do.

This draft has awesome potential for the Pats. Just awesome.

Having the #20 pick to go with the 23rd would be AMAZING. Come on Lions take Cassel!

I haven't really formed binkies yet, I have preferences. One position is clear to me, and I hope to get one out of the following 3 guys: Kenny Britt, Brian Robiskie or Deon Butler.

Javarris Williams, RB, Tennessee State
- 5'10 - 219
- over 1,000 yards every year

From NFLDraftScout

College - "4,329 yards and 42 touchdowns while averaging almost 15 catches for 222 yards per season as a four-year starter"
High School - "Highly-recruited player from the Texas high school ranks... Rushed for more than 2,300 yards as a senior, earning All-Houston Area"

I have had it with potential, I want production.
