Re: pats interested in fred taylor

I'm a huge Fred Taylor fan, and believe he has more than enough left in the tank to be a solid contributor for the next couple of seasons.

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

He's definitely got enough left in the tank and looked bad last year primarily because he had to run behind that horrible and depleted Jacksonville offensive line. Come on up to New England, Fred. You already have your money, now come get your Super Bowl.

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

I would be in love with this signing.

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

Ive always liked Taylor....he is real fun to watch run. I'ld be happy to add him to this group.

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

he would be a great addition. ive always loved his abilities and the way he plays. i think this is a great sign

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

My only concern - no, not the injury thing - is that some other team will give him more of a shot to be a #1-ish type back. However, my spirits are buoyed by what his attitude has been during the Maurice Jones-Drew Era in Jax. If he's interested, I'll bet it gets done. He's a great fit.

would he not be #1 here???

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

Fred Taylor has always performed well in the past. However my concern is that Fred is coming off his least productive healthy season of his career. 500 yards in 13 games played along with a career low 3.9 ypc. Are the Pats getting on the bus too late, so to speak, with this 33 year old veteran runningback? images of Eddie George's final years pop to mind.

Fred Taylor: Career Stats

Taylor's definitely past his prime, but that does not mean he it totally ineffective. The current crop of Pats RBs are kind of a committee anyway, it could be argued that there isn't a complete back in the bunch.

The question is what does Taylor bring to the team that Morris, Faulk and Maroney don't?

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

The Providence Journal reports that the Patriots and Bills have emerged as the "top landing spots" for free agent Fred Taylor.
New England likely views Taylor as a Corey Dillon-type addition who could battle Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney for early-down carries. Buffalo is concerned with Marshawn Lynch's availability for next season following his arrest on three gun charges. It's worth noting that Bills head coach **** Jauron was on the Jaguars' staff when Taylor was drafted in 1998.

Bring him into the backfield rotation the running game would be dominate

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

eh. I'd rather draft Devin Moore later in the draft

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

I'd like him also as somehow who might be able to reach Maroney how to put his amazing talent to good use, instead of dancing around in the backfield. Taylor was always a very aggressive runner who hit the hole hard. Maroney could learn a lot from being around him.

Two different players. I love Devin Moore and have openly been plugging him as someone to look at anytime after the late 3rd round, but he would basically be a receiving back, 3rd down option, change of pace back, an all-purpose player, and a potential successor to Kevin Faulk. Taylor in his prime was a true feature back, and was what we all hoped Maroney would become. Durability issues aside, Taylor always produced at a high level when he wasn't hurt, had tremendous big play ability, and an aggressive running style which was very captivating and effective. I'm not sure how to prioritize them and juggle the roster spots, but they both have value.

To be fair, Jones-Drew's YPC was way down this year as well. The Jags OL was ruined by injuries in training camp, and they never really established the kind of running game they had in the past because of it. They were signing guys off the street to play OL. I don't know if it is fair to judge him because of that.

Also, Taylor finished strong. He average better than 4 YPC in 4 of their final 5 games (the one game he didn't was 3.3 YPC against a stout Minnesota defense against the run), averaging 4.8 YPC in that stretch to finish the season.

I think Fred Taylor has a lot left to offer and mentioned him a month or so ago as someone I was hoping the Pats would pickup as it was pretty clear he was getting cut.

As others have mentioned, the Jags offensive line was destroyed by injuries and Taylor was banged up himself. He had a career high 5.4 YPC the year before and in the games I saw last year (Indy game, nationally televised games) he still had that great speed and the ability to make guys miss.

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

Good news. This would make me ahppy.

Re: pats interested in fred taylor

The Patriots could host free agent Fred Taylor for a visit by as soon as next week, according to the Boston Globe
Taylor, 33, figures to command only a one- or two-year deal. The Pats don't have much cap room and probably won't be able to offer as much as Buffalo.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see
