Ok, I know these threads are gonna be everywhere, but isn't Wilson a real player? Apparently he just wanted out of Oakland and refused a pay-cut to escape.

Thoughts?

ProFootballTalk.com - RAIDERS DUMP THREE PLAYERS

Wilson signed a six-year, $39 million deal last March. He reportedly was among multiple players who wanted out of Oakland during the 2008 regular season.

Per RaiderBeat.com, Wilson reportedly refused to reduce a $4.5 million roster bonus that he was due to receive in March.

The Raiders web site had this up earlier in the day and I posted it under the NFL Football Forum, but could find no confirmation. Apparently it's true. Raiders fans sound really upset, especially as Al Davis cut Wilson and kept Kwame Davis. Sounds like a cap fallout from the Scrabble signing.

Wilson would be a great addition to the secondary, and a nice complement to Mayo. I like him the best of all the safeties who have been rumored or actual free agents - Atogwe (franchised), Sean Jones, Michael Huff (apparently being kept by Oakland). I'm sure a lot of teams will be knocking on his door, and I hope we are one of them.

He's tiny, not a real hitter, but pretty good in coverage. He was probably the best defensive back on the Giants when they won the Super Bowl, though their secondary was pretty heinous so that isn't saying much.

Wilson was making too much money to begin with, but he can play some. Wouldn't be bad as a nickel safety type. I wouldn't want him and Meriweather out there as the safety tandem though, since neither guy is really suited to play in the box at all.

No, thanks.

And can we PLEASE stop doing this for every name, big and small, who has flooded the FA market?

You'd prefer more Matt Cassel threads? :)

It's an annual ritual at cut time, kicking the tires of every used car in the lot. Seems as good a use of the deep offseason as any.

This probably isn't the thread to lodge that (valid) complaint, given that Wilson can actually play, unlike 95% of the guys brought up in threads like this, and the Patriots could use another safety, given the uncertainty with Rodney and the pending free agency of James Sanders.

Simple solution... If you don't like it, don't read it.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I really like this guy, please sign him for a reasonable contract. oakland just does something to players... He would be an amazing addition to the pats secondary

Doesn't he remind anyone else of Eugene Wilson in his first three years with the Pats?

Pats should have no interest in....

Marvin Harrison
Pacman Jones
Michael Huff
Deuce McAllister
Chris McAllister
Dre Bly
Michael Vick
Dewayne Robertson
Kalimba Edwards
Marcus Washington

I'm interested in having these guys in Pats uniforms...

Gibril Wilson
Ronald Curry

Keep in mind that the signings of Vrabel, Ted Washington, Roman Phifer and Rodney Harrison were very significant to the Pats when it comes to "released" players. Doesn't hurt to hope to catch that luck again.

Chris McAllister isn't that bad. He was just getting paid way too much.

Huff was cut?

we should pick him up. hes clearly a pats fan. did you see how he tried to give us the Super Bowl last year when Moss smoked him with 20 seconds left in the game

There must be more Brady Giselle stories. Why would you want to talk about available players on a football board?

I think Wilson and Greer are DB's worth investigating. Solid, middle of the road DB's who might just need a better culture to pull it together.

Also, I think it's now an official, annual tradition to sign an ex-Raider, at least until Davis finally lays down for the big sleep.

Also, I Lito is getting the boot (or being put on sale) and while I would agree that he's not a #1 corner w/ the Seagulls, he's another guy that (if cheap) might just have a couple of nice years here. But he's #5 or so on my list of possible DB acquisitions outside the draft.

Also, if he gets cut, that thread will be at least 10 pages long. Bank that.

You mean, like, staying in his coffin for a really long time or something? I don't think that's really possible when you need to drink all that goat blood to maintain your vitality.

For the right price? Absolutely

Ahhh, Ray! Once again do you hit the nail squarely on the head!

And I'm liking it!:D

His first thought will probably be to return to New York. I think he's a better safety than Butler, but who knows if the Giants think so.
