He is only 31 and has lost a bit of his talent in the past few years but was a force in 2004 which was his pro bowl season and played well in 2005 and 2006

The Skins opted to drop Washington over Jason Taylor and shave off 4M against the cap,so he is available although he played in a 4-3 in Washington and don't know how he would translate to this 3-4 D

Is he washed up or would he make for some depth at the position for the Pats? or was the signing of Banta-Cain signs that there wont be another veteran OLB signing anytime soon?

no.. He's never played in a 3-4 and his age has caught up to him.. He's not the player he once was with INDY... He had 1 AVERAGE year in Washington..

He's averaged 46 tackles the past 2 years.. Seriouly.. NO

Probably won't translate well to 3-4 at this stage of his career.
Has been injury prone 2005-present.
Has been less productive each year due to injuries.

Sorry but no, no way, and this should be moved to the NFL forum.

It's a sad thing when we look at a LB prospect and say "he is only 31".

He's lost too much and he doesn't fit our system.

Washington's best fit was in Indy's Tampa 2 system. From a linebacker perspective, that's about the opposite of what the Patriots do.

We have a lot of Veteran LB's, all of whom are probably near the top of the heap for the individual age categories. This dude sounds close to done.
We have all we need of time-tested (and still solid) LB's, IMO. Unless it's a special case for some uber-talented FA, we need to stick with the draft and our P-Squad.

I released a fart two minutes ago. Should we sign it too?

Would you characterize it as devastating and disruptive?
;)

Nah, this one was a ninja fart: silent and deadly.

Just so we're clear - we'll be doing this for every free agent?

Are you afraid you're going to miss a gamethread or something?

Why, oh, why does this happen every time an old & busted or just a bust is released?!?! If we have to do this for every FA at least make a poll. I enjoy saying no:)

There is a thread that hasn't been posted to since the 17th and it's still on the first page of the forum. It's not as if having these threads is making anyone miss out on the "Stunning!" move made by any team, anywhere.

Really all of these "release" threads should be in the NFL forum until they pickup rumors involving NE.

I like these threads, especially when they're about a player I don't know much about. Explanations at why or why not are really helpful to me, personally.

Also, it doesn't belong in the NFL forum because they're not news tidbits, they're "Joe Somebody was released...would he make a good Patriot". These discussions are great to because they point out that we see that Bill builds his team a little differently than many fans might think.

Some players suck on other teams because said team sucks, or they hate the culture. Raw numbers don't always tell the tale.

These threads are gold and if anyone hates them, well Spring training is on and the NBA supposedly has kind of sport happening... :)

I'll pretty much agree with your analysis here in order to avoid posting my own. The fart joke was more or less my "no thanks" to Marcus Washington. Plus, people, it's the offseason. It's not like the forum is roaring with new everyday activity right now.

Mods, why not have two stickied threads, one for releases/he could do a job for us (HCDAJFU), and one for Cassel?
