On Matt Russell — the scout who discovered Matt Cassel — and Cassel’s progress…
Matt (Russell) did a great job by staying around. Too often, at the end of a pro day like that, people will get on a plane quickly. But Matt stuck around and ended up seeing something that was vital for us to continue to research. That said, we looked at it, but obviously didn’t have a whole body of work to really evaluate. But as you see him around the Patriots organization, you see how [Cassel] was really very good about being there early and trying to keep up with Tom and, obviously with Tom Brady being such a leader and setting the tone, Matt really adhered to that approach and he just continues to get better and better. So I wasn’t necessarily surprised. They have a fantastic supporting cast there for him, and I think it was obviously a very nice, smooth transition.

I found this interesting...Someone with first hand knowledge of Cassel but who is no longer a Patriot and is for obvious reasons not intersted in aquiring him so that makes his comments un-biased.

Wanted to ask him about his wife Delta Burke, but I figured that would be kinda bad form. Anyway, Childress' quotes are up as part of a longer blog entry about all the Cassel talk going on at the combine......

With Childress having the brain power that rivals Herm Edwards, and his aparent chip on the shoulder towards Belichick... I just don't see Cassel going to Minny.

Not to mention, y'know, this is the guy that drafted Tavaris Jackson about 5 rounds too high and insisted he was a starting NFL quarterback, and apparently still believes it.

Absolutely, and it's sad, since I think it might be the best situation for Cassel, absent the head coach of course.

Not to mention, y'know, this is the guy that drafted Tavaris Jackson about 5 rounds too high and insisted he was a starting NFL quarterback, and apparently still believes it.

Bingo. I might be wrong, I just don't see him as the kind of guy that can admit his (horrific) mistake and move on to correct it. There's almost an air of desperation around him where he wants to prove that he's right no matter what.

Just listened to WEEI and according to Charles Robinson the Vikings are interested in Matt Cassel, but that the asking price may be too high.
