Please please, for the love of god please let's not sign anymore Broncos CBs who are washed up :D. Unless his name is Champ Bailey.

Re: Dre' Bly released

He can still play, he's pretty adept at off coverage. He really started to fall off in Detroit when they used more Tampa 2. Not an on the line corner but a good covrage player.

He never really could. At his best he was the guy who gave up 10 plays for every one he made but since he was on such a bad team, his one play made highlights.

and let the old washed up CB threads commence, let me guess everyone wants him on this forum

do people even realize that players get cut for a reason

You do realize that Steve Largent, a HOFer, was released, and more recently James Harrison, you know last years Def POY, was released multiple times.

I am not saying Bly can still play but just because a player is released doesn't mean they can't play.

One mans scrap is another mans gold, as they say.

so our treasure last yr was deltha oneil

i see

Re: Dre' Bly released

Sigh, I'll throw in the obvious...

If he's willing to come in for a one-year, cap friendly, "prove it" deal, then he'd make good camp competition and depth with the kids, blah blah blah.

Same formula as always. If he wants a real contract, I say no thank you.

He was one of the most expensive 2nd CB's in the league right? So i think it has more to do with the fact that he's expensive for what he brings to the table, rather than his play which is probably still enough to compete in the NFL.
Nevertheless i don't want no washed up CB either, besides Josh cut him so he probably doesn't even fit our system ;)

Re: Dre' Bly released

I'd be leery of bringing in anyone from that Denver defense the way they played last year.

Re: Dre' Bly released

I'd still prefer Jabari Greer, but I guess Bly is worth taking a look at.

Re: Dre' Bly released

the thing about bly that i have always liked is his ability to make big plays. Yes, he struggles in man coverage BUT, he has shown great ability to create turnovers. i think he can still play if he is put in the right situation. is that situation in New England? well, BB always likes bringing in veteran DB's so I could see it happening if the price is right.

Re: Dre' Bly released

If a Belichick product cut him, you've got to wonder if that implies Bill won't be interested.

I think Greer is a much better option for a vet CB pick-up.

And get of Deltha's sack. He saved one game practically on his own, and that one game made the difference for a playoff anomaly and a spare QB worth his weight (and more) in gold. He won't be back, why keep railing. The first few games displayed why he was signed. He just didn't have the stamina to finish the season well.

Deltha is that you???? :confused::D

Re: Dre' Bly released

Bly was due to make $6.8 million against the cap. So who knows what portion of his release is performance based, versus cap savings. I'd take a flyer on him, and/or Leigh Bodden, if the price were right.

I like to think I know a little about football. To me, Dré Bly is an old man-to-man cover corner that gambles to make his picks and hence tends to give up big plays over top.

I'd equate him to Terrell Buckley, a mixed bag that might be useful as a nickel corner... but we've got a bunch of young sub-package corners on the roster, so where does he fit? Pats let Buckley walk the year they drafted Samuel and Wilson.

Numerous Denver fans I've talked to, and also those on message boards, seem to think he's slowed down quite a bit as well, and he's never been one to thrive in NFL bump and run coverage.

I think we're all done with the "other team's JAG experiments" philosophy. We have 2 good young CB's to groom that will both step in to start once Ellis moves on.
