Brian Robiskie = fit for the Pats

After seeing how well Mayo developed in one year largely to his work ethic and passion for the game, I think we cannot understate the fact how important those intangibles are when considering the usage of Day 1 picks.

My only question on Robiskie is if he is fast enough to be the intermediate guy the Pats need. In terms of a possession receiver opposite Moss, he fits the bill, but can he get down field a little faster than, say, a Gaffney. But from what I've seen, I like him and think he'd be worth a 2nd rounder.

I endorse this 100%. He supposedly looked great at Senior Bowl or one of those other get togethers. And watching him at OSU, I always thought he would make a steady pro.

I think both Robiskie and Iglesias from Oklahoma would be good fits. The only question in my mind is how high they go, and how high we are willing to spend a pick on WR. Depends a little on what happens with FA with Gaffney and possibly an outside pickup. I personally do not want to spend a first day pick on WR, but 3rd round and up would be ok.

I'm hoping both of them show somewhat average speed at the combine and fall to the 3rd-4th round, as I don't think either's game is based on speed and don't really care what their 40 time is.

I already said I liked Robiskie, but in the late third (As Asante pick if Brace is not there) or fourth, NEVER the second.

I would not mind the Pats taking Robiskie in the 4th round. HOWEVER, I think that Mohammed Massaquoi from Georgia will be available areound the same time, and he is bigger and faster.

I remember watching some Georgia games and MM looks like an outright physical specimen and beast, snapping balls out of the air and gliding into the end zone. Of course, it's college Ds.

He reminds my of Troy Brown, not physically, but with his uncanny ability to come up with the "big catch" on 3rd down. He always seemed to make the play when they really neede it the most.

I am concerned about his speed and separation abilities. I would rather see this guy in the third. Austin Collie. He is 6'2" and 206lbs. He is scholar smart and better hands than Gaffney. 4.49/40 speed and quickness. A little older and more mature at 23 having been on a LDS mission for two years. A 2008 All-American, being named to the CBS Sports.com First Team, Associated Press Second Team, Sporting News Second Team, SportsIllustrated.com Second Team and Rivals.com Second Team ... named to the All-MWC First Team ... named a Biletnikoff Award finalist ... Academic All-MWC ... led the nation in receiving yards per game with 118.31 and total yards receiving with 1,538 ... was third in the nation in receptions per game at 8.15 and total catches with 106 fourth in the nation in touchdown catches with 15. Collie also returned kicks.

Robiskie is also very smart with a 3.5 GPR and the same size, but I still feel Collie might be a shade faster and can return kicks as well. They say Robiske has "moderate speed" and takes him a while to get to top speed. Collie has twice as many receptions and 118 yards per game. Close but I think we can wait a little longer and still get a quality kid here.

The problem with Collie is that he has only one year of any kind of production. I haven't seen a mock with him going any earlier than the 6th round. His athleticism is on par with Robiskie, but his route-running and hands and general football IQ aren't even close. He is quite a good returner, though.

I like both guys, but Robiskie is the demonstrably better football player.

The key is to give the defense too many coverage options on third down than they can cover and if given the time, Brady will find the appropriate open receiver.

And if not given the necessary time to find the open receiver, follow the "Matt Cassel plan" and just throw it to Welker!
