Harrison’s Indy days are done

It’s no longer a question of if Harrison, 36, will be let go. It has become a question of when. It will happen in the coming days, certainly before the new league year starts a week from Friday, but few are sure exactly when.

But make no mistake: It is happening. The Colts no longer can afford to carry Harrison, who is scheduled to have a $13.4 million number for an Indianapolis team that is starving for more salary-cap room to deal with free-agents-to-be such as CB Kelvin Hayden.

If the Colts were to release Harrison, his $13.4 million number instantly would come off the books, saving the team $7 million against the cap. Harrison still would count $6.4 million in dead money, but more importantly, there would be the $7 million savings.

Not surprising.

Yep everyone saw that one coming, especially with their cap problems.

i wonder if he'd retire. would that save the colts the entire 13 million?

Nope, but $7 million would be saved.

He'll be 37 at the start of next season.

That is a massive cap hit to take though. Sure you save 7M but to take 6M in dead money really hurts for this year

Yeah, I agree, even though it's "big news", it was something every football fan knew would happen long before the end of the season. That combination of cap hit, salary, age, and lack of production due to injuries is going to earn a release on even the most loyal of teams.

He's an improvement over Gaffney, let's sign him.

He could become like Vinatieri leaving us for the enemy

Figured this would happen. That contract the Colts gave him proves why they're not quite up to par with FO's like us and Pittsburgh. 6M in dead money, ouch.

Their front office is pretty close though.

They'd just better not tell him this when he's working the car wash.

He's over the hill and has major injury issues. I'd rather have Torry Holt if I was going to take a flyer on a former All-Pro.

Besides, we have enough guns on the streets of Boston.

It was a joke, I'm surprised it took that long.

He's injured and washed up. We should have grabbed him and a defensive player by trading the #7 pick when we had a chance.:D

We resigned Hayden tho.

I am very sad about the Marvin news. I knew it was coming but it hurts. I hate to say it but he was just a shell of his former self last year. He really declined. :(

Poor Marvin. I would think he considers retiring.

I just dont want to see him keep declining on another team either.:(

I guess Anthony Gonzalez is officially our #2 receiver but thats a good thing. I would not be shocked if we drafted a receiver in the first 2 rounds too. Polian loves offense.

ICSB - I know we discussed it before; but perhaps clearing cap space to either sign Saturday - or his replacement?

I thought Harrison looked very tentative catching the ball after he returned from his injury,he just didnt look like he wanted the ball.....

Saturday is next on Polians list he said now that Hayden was signed to a long term deal. How much will Jeff want or demand? I dont know. He loves Indy and his family does he says.

I know Jeff is aging too but he still has amazing chemsitry with Peyton. I simply cannot imagine Jeff anywhere else. There are rumors Clark and Peyton will push money around for him.

We'll see. I love Jeffs backup but Jeff still has a few more years of good football left in him I feel. He is a smaller center who does not fit with a lot of teams, but he is perfect with us. I would love to keep him.

God this one hurts. Dungy leaving did not bother me at all. Edge leaving was sad but this one is painful.

Your coach is Jim Caldwell. Good luck with that. Your falling back in the pack for a couple years. Good sentiments don't mean zhit in the NFL. Your owner is Jim Irsay, and if it's financially advantages he'll move the team or sell it if you start to suck. That's how his father did buisness.
