There was a big discussion on a sports talk show down here about Cassel going to the Panthers. Then they started talking about Julius Peppers and said that many sources close to him had said there were some teams interested in him from the NFC and one team from the AFC. Then a caller called in and he was an ex-teammate of Peppers from Carolina and they are best friends, so he had talked to Peppers about who the one team from the AFC was and that he said it was the Patriots! So rumors are swirling about if the Panthers franchise him then a possible trade, or the idea of him signing with us for a pass rusher.

Re: Cassel Trade Information on Radio Down Here

It would be more accurate to say this was Peppers info or Peppers rumor, with a little Cassell speculation (not even a rumor) thrown in.

Possibly, but even if they don't Peppers said New England has expressed a good amount of interest in him, and he says he would love to play here.

Hit edit on your original post and then the "go advanced" button and you can change it yourself.

Re: Cassel Trade Information on Radio Down Here

This is definately an interesting rumor, BUT, what happens to Delhomme? Has anyone heard for sure that the Panthers are ready to go in another direction at the QB position. It wouldn't shock me, but I haven't heard anything about them ready to find another QB.

They have yet to come out and say it, but it is expected after that playoff game this year.

what is the speculation on the amount of money that would be necessary to sign peppers?

I'm gonna say a lot more than he's worth considering the fact he'd be a conversion project, and moving to a harder system...

I think that last playoff game sealed Delhomme's fate. I'm not saying he'll get released (maybe?) but his overall body of work this season that was exclamated by the worst ever performance by a QB in postseason history leads me to believe that he's really not the QB the Panthers are relying on for their future success. Ever since their SB appearance, Delhomme has not delivered, and I'm not talking great performances, he's just hasn't been good. So I can completely see them being interested in Cassel.

I can't even imagine Adalius Thomas and Julius Peppers being unleashed on QBs, with Vrabel, Mayo and Guyton patrolling the middle. Bruschi and Seau holding down the fort. Woods, Crable, Redd and Banta-Cain ready to rip.

i have always liked peppers but he would have to take a pay cut (i would think??) to play here.
if he wants a SB right then maybe he does it for a year or two.

Bruschi - Mayo - Peppers .... we would almost have a full picnic...

And you can put it on Wheatley bread (hey, it's close....)

I was real close to adding that one.....

Kraft was also close

either way...I think the rumor is 'delicious'.

I don't see why he would. Why?

Cassel would be off the books, we can even give Big Vince his raise and pay Peppers.

I agree, once cassel is off the books the pats have much more space to get a big FA like peppers but it would still be nice if he took a discount :)

Some people would go the Wheatley route, others maybe the Kaczur Bun route. And of course, you need utensils: a Wilfork.

I'd welcome this if Peppers is willing to play for a cap friendly amount. If not I'd rather look to the draft for another OLB.
