Culpepper restructured

Not a factor. Culpepper is no answer. But in my view, anyone here who's actually trying to follow Cassel if/when he moves on, doesnt really want to see the guy go the Detroit anyway.

Interesting. Makes you think they are leaning towards drafting a QB at #1 or at least somewhere high in the draft.

That is why this franchise will always be the lions, making bonehead descions like this.. should have just cut him.. Im not saying they should trade for Cassel, but its dumb to keep Culpepper, and went after the wrong coach also..

Does anybody know what the rules are with restructuring a contract? I was under the impression that you couldn't just take a pay cut, or eliminate a bonus. The link above says Culpepper's contract was not extended, so if my recollection about the rules regarding restructuring a contract are correct, I'm curious as to just how the Lions did this.

Well so much for the Lions trying to turn things around :x

Not sure what you are referring to. The only rule I know of is that you can't restructure a contract twice in the same league year. Players take pay cuts all the time and there are lots of examples of bogus bonus payments that forces a team to renegotiate (eliminate the bonus) or cut the player. McNair had something like a $25M bonus the year the Titans locked him out of camp.

Maybe I'm just missing what you are driving at, but this looks to me like Culpepper took a pay cut, converted the roster bonus to non-guaranteed salary or moved the bonus out to a later date. The pay cut seems the most likely to me.

For some reason (perhaps I'm mistaken) I was under the impression that a player could not just flat out take a pay cut and remain under contract; restructuring typically took the same amount of money (or more) and spread it out over a longer period. I thought the team had to cut the player and make him a free agent, and then re-sign him to that (lower) contract.
