BSPN viewer sticks up for Belichick (!)

So yesterday morning while I was waiting for my boss... er, wife to get out of the shower in the hotel I was channel surfing when I came across BSPN's Outside the Lines and they were having a follow-up on the earlier story about the Texans players who suffered season-ending injuries in minicamp. And some woman from a state outside New England (think it was West Virginia but not sure anymore) wrote a long letter asking why no one seemed concerned about this when they reacted to the Spygate thing like Belichick had been caught stabbing puppies in the head.

Let me repeat this: someone who watches BSPN often enough to get on the air commenting about one of their reports actually has common sense. That's got to be another of the Four Horsemen.

I must be missing something... what does minicamp injuries have to do with Spygate or Belichick?

The point made was that while everyone and their mother crucified Bellichick for his mistake last year, this whole deal with the Texans is flying under the radar.

I agree that it is hypocritical, but there is really nothing that can change it.

Negligence ? Have you seen the footage ? This mini-camp fiasco resulted in three of there offensive lineman hurt, and one former Patriot Dan Stevenson all but ending his career over making this public.

no, i haven't. that's why i asked...did they do stuff beyond what is the normal or accepted practice.

it was an honest question without an agenda...what happened.

The CBA and accepted coaching practice pretty well dictate what is right and what is wrong. If the Texans violated the CBA and/or used unacceptable practices then the caller is right. It would be ludicrous to criticize Belichick and not hold the Texans' feet to the fire.

It's the same reason Brett Myers was able to beat his wife and come back and play with hardly any noise, while steroids makes headlines every day. If people perceive (justly or unjustly) that the competitive balance of a sport has been messed with, it is a moral outrage that cannot be matched by real world concerns.

It's silly, but it's become the norm.

I am sure if the Texan's record on winning threatened the Nfl's notion of "parity; we would have experienced a similiar outburst of outrage.

I suspect that with an uncapped NFL around the corner, there will be a change of "perception". It's important to note that the Patriots are the only organization with the financial resources and organizational skills to truly dominate the league.

I would not be suprised to see lil Roger coming to King Robert to broker some deal.

i guess that's why spygate was a much bigger story than the disgusting treatment and subsequent death of corey stringer by the minnesota vikings.

Bingo. Here's why nobody cares- the Texans haven't won anything, they're no threat to anybody, nobody has anything against them. They're nobody's rival.
If this news had come out of Gilette?? Nuf said

Meanwhile that situation with the Texans is a travesty, first of all because of what's happened to those guys but even worse is the relative lack of attention it's getting.

I still wonder why the NFL seems to have so many injuries lately despite all the rule changes.
