Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch has been arrested and charged with felony possession of a concealed firearm, according to a press release from the Culver City Police Department. The announcement confirms that it was Lynch who was involved in this incident last Wednesday night.

According to a police announcement e-mailed to Pro Football Talk, Culver City police officers were patrolling the Fox Hills area of Culver City when they came into contact with three adult males in a 2006 Mercedes Benz.

After speaking with the occupants, they determined that one of the men in the car was Lynch, the Bills starting running back. A field investigation led to the “discovery of a loaded firearm.”

Seeing as this is his second run in with the law, I think he is a good candidate to be suspended by the NFL.

There are a lot of places in/around LA that I wouldn't feel comfortable being without a gun either, especially in a Mercedes. Culver City isn't one of them, though. Considering the whole hit-and-run fiasco from last year, maybe he'll actually do some time for this one.

I watched a special on athletes who own guns (it may have been Real Sports HBO) and it made a convincing case for athletes who carry guns. I don't think this will become a big deal as there are an abundent amount of NFL players that do carry firearms.

True, but california gun laws are maybe the most strict in the country. Add that to the fact that there are unregistered firearms everywhere, and I honestly don't blame high-profile athletes for feeling the need to carry them (especially after Sean Taylor and Richard Collier), but I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see the courts out here throw the book at him.

weapons possession charge.
Culver City police said in a statement Sunday that Lynch was
arrested after officers confronted him and two other men in a car
and found a loaded firearm in the vehicle.
Lynch was arrested Wednesday for possession of a concealed
firearm after officers determined the gun belonged to him. He was
released that night on $35,000 bail.
Culver City police did not immediately return a phone message
seeking information about why officers first confronted Lynch and
his companions.
Lynch's lawyer, M. Gerald Schwartzbach, said his client was not
involved in a traffic accident and was in California visiting
friends.
A Buffalo Bills spokesman had no comment.


"We can confirm that Marshawn was arrested in California and has retained an attorney," Bills vice president of communications Scott Berchtold said in a statement. "We are in the process of trying to gather the facts and will not offer a comment while that process is ongoing."

Excuses totally bogus. Here's the real scoop : if you're scared to be somewhere without a gun, maybe you shouldn't be there in the first place.

Where I live, nobody locks doors - cars or homes - because nobody kills people, takes people, or steals. Not interested in lame "I have to wear a gun" excuses. Truth is : how "free" can you be if you need to carry ?

I fell in love with the girl in your avatar when I saw that Jim Beam commercial. She would be the prime person to watch football with and that accent makes me melt.

On the subject of atheletes carrying guns, I really don't care. These people are subject to being robbed, mugged, harassed, or murdered (in extreme cases) when they leave the football field. Yes, one can say that they should just hire bodyguards but even bodyguards are afraid of bullets. The best defense against a person that pulls a gun on you is to pull one of your own.

Thus, NFL players should take a bullet rather then fend for themselves with a gun, and NFL players who grew up in the hood, should never go back even to visit family.

The thing is, what are they going to DO with a gun? SHOOT somebody? Let's say one of them finally kills someone in "self-defense." What does Fuhrer Goodell do then? These children need not only to get rid of their guns, they need to stay out of places where a gun might be used by anyone.

Secondly, deliberately putting yourself in a situation or environment where you believe it might be necessary to shoot someone is just plain stupid. Unfortunately, fame and fortune comes with a price, which means staying away from potentially volatile situations. With some of these guys, having a gun is a status symbol/accessory unrelated to "need," and represents trouble waiting to happen.

Yes, with SOME of the guys. With others, it's just for protection. They run the risk of getting a gun pulled on them everywhere they go. And, nowadays especially, you can run into somebody with a gun wherever you go no matter whether it's day or night.
