What the heck happens at safety?

id think we could get a darn good safety capable of playing right away in the second round

Patrick Chung. Draft him. You've got an ST's ace straight away if nothing else.

I love this guy too, but he is a bit like meriweather, more of a FS. But if we could get him with one of our 2nd rounders i'd definitely pull the trigger. But we shouldn't get all stressed out about the position. Even though it's an area of need, i'm not already giving up on Rodney and J Sanders and Tank Williams might return, so we just have to wait and see how our depth chart looks like after these players have made up their minds.
I haven't seen much of him, but could Marcus Freeman with a good 40 be translated into a SS???

Signing the Sanders's and williams again would be the best situation. You wouldn't need to draft a safety. If James Sanders can't be had, then we'll have to draft a safety in the early rounds. I dont expect a late round safety as we already have one in Slater.

I am gonna use the Hitler Youths' favorite expression on this site-James Sanders?....No thanks!!!
I hope someone makes James Sanders the highest paid Safety in the NFL...Good luck!

I wouldn't mind the Pats signing James Sanders, but he should be a back up. If he refuses the back up role, then he can take a hike. The Pats need a serious upgrade at the SS safety spot. I would imagine BB will want to move Merriweather back to FS. With that said, I would like the Pats to go after Sean Jones (who can hit) or Jermaine Phillips (who makes plays).

As far as Lewis Sanders and Tank Williams, they can take a hike as well. The Pats can find somebody in the draft who is younger and probably has a better chance of staying on the field.

"PS: Stay away from Huff. As BB once said why do I want a defensive player that can't tackle??????"

Well then Bill shouldn't have Meriweather on his team....

Am i the only one who remembers him bouncing off John Carslon??

Sanders is every bit as good as Meriweather IMO

I don't understand this. Meriweather was called "The Hit Stick" in college, but can't make a solid tackle. What changed?

You guys are ridiculous.

Meriweather is better than Sanders, and I would rate them both as above-average tacklers.

Just because he missed a tackle on a rookie phenom TE doesn't mean he's a poor hitter. That you would even attempt to draw an equivalency with Michael Huff is ludicrous.

Excellent post. You stole the words right out of my fingers.

Nothing changed except for some ridiculous assertions by others. Yeah, Meriweather is so bad he was only in for every play of every game after Rodney went down.

Meriweather is a hard hitter, since when do we judge players based on one bad play? I guess Tom Brady is terrible since he threw an INT against the Colts in 2006 when he had a chance to lead a game winning drive.

Now that's bad.
