And don't forget Gabe Kapler, strongest Jew since Samson (excluding me).

No worries there PJ:yeeha: He was Hot,end of story:D

You tell 'em, brother! (Except about the conspiracy. Shh.)

Anybody with old Jewish relatives has heard the "you know, he's Jewish" bit a hundred times -- always about people in the fields where Jews typically do worst. I guess it's kind of like stuffed derma or matzoh brei. If you grew up with it, it seems perfectly normal. If not, you're like "what the heck is that crap?"

The joke in my neighborhood was at a boy's Bar Mitzvah, he realizes that he's more likely to own a professional sports team than to play for one.......

Don't kill me for being politically incorrect, but for some reason when I read about Andre and this honor, I remembered something I hadn't thought about in decades. Mad Magazine (forget the current rendition; only people over 40 or 50 can understand its influence) used to occassionally run the 'Mad Library of Extremely Thin Books' and one that was included was "Jewish Sports Legends", or something like that. Of course at that time I don't know if there would have been anybody in such a 'book' other than Red Auerbach and Sandy Koufax.

I remember that! (I'm actually under your age cutoff, I just grew up with a huge stack of old Mad magazines in the house. And a victrola, and a player piano, and a treadle sewing machine...but that's a story for another day.)

Here's the punchline: 368 pages!!! WTH? Amazon.com: Great Jews In Sports: Robert Slater: Books

It's not politically incorrect if it's true! :singing::singing:

Freaking funny stuff, thx for posting Ray Clay - I forgot about that precious clip.

Denis Leary and one of the all time funniest guys, Lenny Clarke - tore it up that day.

Seeing that was when I started falling in love with Denis Leary. "Rescue Me" sealed it.

I saw that one in the movie "Airplane!"

(we're loud, but there are only 13 million of us in the world)

Are you sure? This really surprises me. How many are in the U.S. alone? How many in China? :)D)

Yup, that's it. There are about 5.6 million in Israel, 5.3 million in the US, and I know of 5 in China:D. The rest are scattered around the world.

That's it. 0.2% of the world's population and 1/100 the number of Muslims in the world and probably 1/80 or 1/90 the number of Christians.

Yeah, I read this a while ago (I read 16mil, but still). It amazed me, especially given how many I went to school with growing up.

Although for those that want to know the real answer, it's because Jews suck at sports and we want to simultaneously make ourselves feel better about this and distract the world with our sports accomplishments while running the media and world bank.
Hey, wait a minute...... we have an Israeli Gold Medalist now and I don't want to hear any nonsense about windsurfing not being a real sport.

:D ha, you're exactly right about that. Yep, we love our high-achieving tribe members who aren't involved in show business or finance. Hey, did you guys ever hear that Sandy Koufax was a Jew? True story.

It's actually akin to anything related to Rhode Island. I get excited whenever there's a reference to RI outside of the Ocean State. Two nights ago I was bragging to my wife about how "Coach" from Cheers is buried in RI. Why I take pride in something like that or the fact that Sammy Davis Jr. was in the minyan is beyond me.

Hey did you know Youk was Jewish

it's true, I always say hey, did you know so and so was Jewish
It's probably because looking at someone you can't tell that they're Jewish, like some other minorities, but at the same time we feel as much as a minority as they do (in some ways)

True, my high school was like 40% Jewish, my college was probably 10%
But, there are so many places were there are NONE of us

I think the answer is, who cares? If someone wants to have a hall of fame for anything and people find it interesting why should anyone else care?

To wit, I bring you:

The International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum

Admission:
Adults $8.00
Seniors (55 or older) $7.00
Children 6 - 18- $4.00
Children under 5 are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

AAA Discount: $1.00 off up to (5) admissions. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer.

* * *

Somehow, I think I'd rather pay the extra $2 for the Patriots' version. :D

I wonder if Andre goes to Matisyahu concerts, or if he ever spoke Yiddish on the field during games: "Oy vey, what a hit!" :D I met him once about a year ago in a small restaurant on Route 9. I shook his hand (he has a giant paw), and told him I was a season ticket holder. He jokingly asked if I wanted to upgrade to the club seats. Seems like a great guy.

isnt Maverick Jewish? ;)

Tippett was an awesome player. Congrats to him for making the Hall. He was one of the best Pats defensive players of the past and he deserves getting recognition for it.
