OK Guys and gals, lets see what you got. Do your Patriots mock by using the top 700 provided in this link.

NFL Draft - 2009 Draft Prospects - CBSSports.com Football

Rules - there has to be rules.

You cannot pick anyone ranked above the Patriots picks. So you can't choose a player ranked #22 or above and so on and so forth.

Once you've done that then you can do one with trades as long as the trades make sense from the value board.

This is just to see where people are thinking about the players there are no winners or losers. DO NOT tear into someone else picks until you have made yours. OK go to it!

Here are the Patriots picks as of now.
PATRIOTS 23 47 58 89 120 151 186 217

I know, I know, it's going to change but use what we know now.

Using the extended picks, first without trades (including a few potential FAs):

1(23) Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn St (25). High risk/reward guy.
2(47) William Moore, S, Missouri (60). Big SS/FS who has falled due to injuries and poor use in his senior year; high upside.
2(58) Connor Barwin, DE/LB, Cincinnati (62). Versatile high-upside player, could possibly move inside to SILB.
3(89) Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose St (90). Talented replacement for Jarvis Green or Mike Wright.
3(97) Trevor Canfield, OG, Cincinnati (102). Tough guard with a nasty streak. Would be great at RG opposite Mankins.
4(124) Xavier Fulton, OT, Illinois (135). Athletic OT prospect with nimble feet.
4(135) Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Spillman (187). Huge athletic, versatile DT/DE to backup Wilfork and play "big" 4-3 DL.
5(158) Devin Moore, RB, Wyoming (181). "Poor man's Percy Harvin", Darrin Sproles type of RB/all-purpose threat.
5(167) Kevin Huber, P, Cincinnati (182). Punter with great hang time and accuracy to pin opponents inside the 20.
6(192) Demetrius Byrd, WR, LSU.
7(230) Jasper Brinkley, ILB, South Carolina (259). Big 2-down SILB bruiser to take on OTs.
FA Wopamo Osaisai, CB, Stanford (318). Development guy once thought to be a potential high round pick.
FA Donald Washington, CB, Ohio State (321). Another developmental CB with a ton of potential.
FA Davon Drew, TE, East Carolina (268.)

If trades would be allowed, then I would revise it as follows:

- Trade 2(47) (430 points) + 3(89) (145 points) to KC for 2(34) (560 points)
- Trade 4(124) (48 points) + 7(230) (2 points) for 4(122) (50 points)

1(23) Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, Penn St (25).
2(34) Sean Smith, CB/S, Utah (35). Big CB/FS hybrid with tremendous athleticism and upside.
2(58) Connor Barwin, DE/LB, Cincinnati (62).
3(97) Trevor Canfield, OG, Cincinnati (102).
4(122) Jason Watkins, OT, Florida (122). Athletic former TE at OT.
4(135) Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Spillman (187).
5(158) Devin Moore, RB, Wyoming (181).
5(167) Kevin Huber, P, Cincinnati.
6(192) Demetrius Byrd, WR, LSU (227).
FA Davon Drew, TE, East Carolina (268).
FA Wopamo Osaisai, CB, Stanford (318).
FA Donald Washington, CB, Ohio St. (321).

Pre-combine edition....

1.1- #23 Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
2.2- #47 Connor Barwin, OLB, Cincinnati
3.2- #58 Louis Delmas, FS, Western Michigan
4.3- #89 Trevor Canfield, OG, Cincinnati
5.3- #97 Sherrod Martin, CB, Troy
6.4- #124 Bear Pascoe, TE, Fresno State
7.4- #136 Cornelius Lewis, OT, Tennessee State

9.5- #167 Chris Baker, DT, Hampton
10.6- #192 Dominique Edison, WR, Stephen F. Austin

I have little clue who most of these guys are. Work has definitely got in the way of my draftnikking this year.

For a guy with "little clue" you did pretty well. The first four are good values, Lewis and Vollmer are decent. Pascoe and Brinkley are athletically challenged, but they could work out. Martin may need to move to FS. Edison could be a very good WR in time. The only bust in the bunch is Baker who is a better 4-3 than 3-4 prospect, has off-field issues, and came out a year too early.

Bear Pascoe may be athletically challenged but how can you keep a name like that out of your mock??

23 - CB Alphonso Smith (28) : Playmaker with speed to stick downfield
47 - WR Juaguin Iglesias (59) : Not blazing but separates quickly
58 - S William Moore (60) : Trending down but dude didn't forget how to play
89 - ILB Scott McKillop (94) : Always around the ball and decent in coverage
120 - OT Jason Watkins (122) : Good swing tackle if can't take ORT job
151 - TE Ryan Purvis (165) : Would be higher with better BC QB play
186 - RB Ian Johnson (247) : Was a stud when BSU offense was better
217 - QB Curtis Painter (272) : Really stuggled senior year but quick release should translate

Theme is looking for players that have had success but (IMO) have dropped due to team struggles. Filled the key needs on defense and got some fresh faces for the offense.

23 - Clint Sintim: I needed to go back to the Senior Bowl game recording. This is earlier than I want to draft him, he needs to improve his technique against the run, but from SLB he won head to head battles with Michael Oher and Herman Johnson and he didn't look any worse in coverage than NE's current OLBs. He can contribute as a #3 OLB early, but I think he's headed inside to SILB in a couple years.

47 - Louis Delmas: Mike Mayock's #1 S.

58 - Connor Barwin: Raw, but a ton of upside and value added. I tried to avoid it, but I'm declaring a binky. :confused2:

89 - Jarron Gilbert: If NE gets him here it's a steal.

120 - Tyronne Green: He did a good job against B.J. Raji at the Senior Bowl.

151 - Christopher Owens: The other San Jose CB.

186 - Lee Robinson: A Gary Guyton type.

217 - Graham Gano: Good directional P and a decent PK.

Free Agent Targets for both drafts.
UDFA - Seth Olsen: Ferentz trained OG
UDFA - Lydon Murtha: Solid OT.
UDFA - Kory Sheets: Third down back.
UDFA - Robert Francois: Possible ILB.
UDFA - Terrance Knighton: Possible NT/DE
UDFA - Ryan Stanchek: LT to move inside.
UDFA - D.J. Boldin: Little Brother, late bloomer.
UDFA - Jason Boltus: Strong armed Div III QB, needs mechanics work, good camp fodder and could be more.
UDFA - Zach Potter: DE
UDFA - Stephen Hodge: Rodney Jr.
UDFA - Colt Anderson: Good FS.
UDFA - Taurus Johnson: Possession WR.
UDFA - Dan Skuta: ILB/OLB
UDFA - DeAngelo Willingham: Big, physical CB to try at S.
UDFA - Dobson Collins: Good small school WR.
UDFA - Dominick Goodman: Another David Givens.
UDFA - Chase Holbrook: 67% completion percentage.

23 - Clint Sintim
47 - Louis Delmas
58 - Connor Barwin
89 - Jarron Gilbert
97 - Augustus Parrish: MAC LT with the required nasty disposition.
124 - Tyronne Green
136 - Kenny McKinley: All SEC WR who can play outside or the slot, hands catcher.
158 - Ryan Purvis: Glue fingered TE who can block.
167 - Sammie Lee Hill: Possible NT, possible DE.
192 - Keith Fitzhugh: Solid SS
230 - Ladarius Webb: A very effective CB in the Texas vs. The Nation game.

Free Agent target for this draft only
UDFA - Chris Miller: Good directional P.

Bear Pascoe may be athletically challenged but how can you keep a name like that out of your mock??
Watch him in a couple games. :confused2:

After doing this I realized that we have too many draft picks. Two players in the middle of the third would be better than six players from between 89-167.

1.1- #23 Tyson Jackson DE LSU: He is really good, why have many forgotten about him?
2.2- #47 Joaquin Iglesias WR OU: Polished, better than Malcom Kelly.
3.2- #58 Jonathan Luigs OC Arkansas: Third rated OC; athletic and strong, some say he can play guard.
4.3- #89 Jeremiah Johnson RB Oregon: He makes damn good biscuits. (Cody Brown is at 87, WTF!?!?)
5.3- #97 Rashad Johnson S Alabama: No hesitation if he is available at this pick.
6.4- #124 Matt Shaughnessy DE Wisconsin
7.4- #136 Bruce Johnson CB Miami
8.5- #158 Glen Coffee RB Alabama
9.5- #167 Antonio Appleby ILB Virginia
10.6- #192 Quinn Johnson FB LSU
11.7- #230 Japer Brinkley Mich ILB S. Carolina

I agree - feels like too many picks. I kept picking CB/S, I figured sooner or later something would be right. TE? Should’ve gone with Purvis.

1.1- #23 – Clint Sintim (LB)
2.2- #47 - Louis Delmas (S)
3.2- #58 – Connor Barwin (LB)
4.3- #89 – Jarron Gilbert (DE)
5.3- #97 – Trevor Canfield (G) comp
6.4- #124 – Jonathan Casillas (S)
7.4- #136 – Christopher Owens (CB) comp
8.5- #158 – Sebastian Vollmer (T)
9.5- #167 – Courtney Greene (S) comp
10.6- #192 – Ellis Lankster (CB)
11.7- #230 – Khalif Mitchell (DT/DE)

Don't have time to figure trades at the moment. I actually doubt very much we make all these picks, however...

1.1- #23 - Alphonso Smith CB Wake Forest
2.2- #47 - Evander Hood DE Missouri
3.2- #58 - Connor Barwin OLB Cincinnati
4.3- #89 - Chip Vaughan S Wake Forest
5.3- #97 - Shawn Nelson TE Southern Miss
6.4- #124 - Cornelius Lewis OT Tennessee St
7.4- #136 - Matt Shaughnessy ILB Wisconsin
8.5- #158 - Tony Fiametta RB Syracuse
9.5- #167 - Joe Burnett CB Central Florida
10.6- #192 - Orion Martin OLB Virginia Tech
11.7- #230 - Greg Isdaner OL West Virginia

23. (23)James Laurinaitis LB - He's been my binky since last offseason when it was thought by many experts that he'd be the #1 LB prospect then.

47. (62)Connor Barwin DE

58. (65)Jonathan Luigs G/C

89. (89)Chip Vaughn SS

97. (98)Brandon Tate WR

I can't view the remaining list of prospects and my knowledge of them would be very limited anyway, so I'll stop after 3 rounds.

It seems like alot of us have targeted the same players, wonder if we are even close to on the same page as the Patriots are.

Here is my first shot.

#23-Alphonso Smith, CB
#47-Louis Delmas, FS
#58-Connor Barwin, OLB
#89-Jerron Gilbert, DE
#97-Shawn Nelson, TE
#124-Kevin Ellison, SS
#136-Jason Phillips, ILB
#158-Devin Moore, RB
#186-Sammie Lee Hill, DT
#217-Robert Brewster, OT

1.1-#23– Aaron Maybin (OLB) BB went inside last year....outside this year

2.2-#47- Macho Harris (CB) Great playmaker...Pats type corner

3.2-#58–Devin Moore (RB)homerun hitter and Morris, Falk and Jordan are 30+

4.3-#89– Nic Harris(S)-big SS to compliment FS BM. Jr. Rodney fits defense

5.3-#97– Trevor Canfield (G) comp We need to address the OL, he does this

6.4-#124– Shawn Nelson (TE) Looked good during Senior Bowl week

7.4-#136– Chris Baker (DL) comp Had character issues at Penn State, goodDL

8.5-#158 – Jason Watkins (T) Has played LT for Florida for a while now

9.5-#167 – Worrell Williams(MLB) comp Looked good after move to the middle

10.6- #192 – Otis Wiley(SS) Good senior year had me looking at this kid.

11.7- #230 – Curtis Painter (QB) we will need to replace Cassel....why not a kid in the 7th round. I know I will get killed on this pick but I think if the kid had gone to a different college, he would have been more successful. The kid will need to hold a clipboard for a couple of years but it took Drew Brees three years to be considered a great NFL quarterback coming out of the same Joe Tiller spread scheme.

I really want Brandon Pettigrew, Louis Delmas and Connor Barwin but I see some team's reaching higher then we would for all three of these guys. After the combine all could move ahead of our 47 pick and would not be their unless we got one at #23.

10.6- #192 - Graham Gano - P - Florida State

Three things:
1) Jordan is a UFA and has pretty much said he won't be back. The Pats also have BJGE under contract for next year.

2) Nic Harris is being projected as a LB, not a safety. LB is where he played in the Senior Bowl.'

3) Why do they need to replace Cassel? They already have O'Connell and Gutierrez?

Are you an idiot? This has to be the most moronic projection I've even seen. You should be banned just for suggesting it.

217 - QB Curtis Painter (272) : Really stuggled senior year but quick release should translate

Seriously, I really like Painter for the same reasons you do. When the spread at Purdue was clicking, he thrived.

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2006 315 530 4015 59.4 7.58 88 22 19 20 129.59
2007 356 569 3848 62.6 6.76 80 29 11 25 132.33

His senior year was a major disappointment, but I'm suspecting that was more of a reflection of the team than of Painter. I really like that he has a quick, compact throwing motion since the guys with the big windups tend to struggle in the transition to the pro's.

The sack and interception numbers are a little troubling, but as you indicate that could be addressed with a couple of years of solid mentoring and good coaching. If he checks in at a legit 6'4" and shows he can play under center, then he becomes my late round Pats QB for 2009.
