I thought Tully was a decent backup LB especially as a low round draft pick would be and he was a bit better here at pressure on the passer than he was in SF,I think he had about 10 sacks in his years here as a part time player, not bad

The 49ers dumped him as its apparent they are going to be making BIG changes on defense and will probably be very active in FA on the defense side so Tully had to go

Should BB take Banta-Cain back as a backup at our very light depth as it is right now? or didn't he show enough here to warrant a return at a cheap cost and look elsewhere later for depth?

I thought he was a decent back-up too, and as I recall, got a pretty good deal from SF, so the Pats let him go. I'd take him back as a back up at back-up $$.

Not sure where he would fit in. He was a situational player here and my impression is that SF tried to make him a full time one and it didn't work out. I'm not sure he gives you much beyond what Woods or Crable can do. Yeah, he's probably a little better, but he'll cost more too. He's probably the kind of guy BB would love to bring to training camp on a veteran's minimum salary, but who knows if that will work out.

NO ONE knows what Crabel can do,he may turn out good or a bust and why not have some competition for a crucial spot on the team,OLB?

Woods will cost at least $1.5M, perhaps $2.2M. If Tully is as good as Woods, then Tully is an option. Crable is an unknown, essentially a a 3rd round rookie. And, like Woods, Tully is a top special teamer. It is just possible that Tully has improved some since he left. He started in his last year, after an injury, and preformed OK, just not good enough to want to pay what the open market was providing.

TBC always felt like a disappointment to me, but maybe b/c he was trying to fill the big shoes of Willie MAC.

Were you expected a gold medal for posting it first?

You posted it in the OTHER forum when it relates to a former Patriot who has good experience in this system AND one who may be of real interest once again in an area strongly lacking depth.

I see no reason why it could not be discussed in the main forum unless the Mods feel differently

Sorry for ruining your FIRST BREAKING NEWS post

I could see Tully back and as an upgrade to where Colvin was - At least in a part-time role

But then again during this BB Patriots era, has Belichick ever signed a player years later after he let them go to another team and signed them again later once that other team released them? (Colvin not included)

I can't remember any off hand besides Rosey

TBC had weight issues in SF. He's pretty much hit his ceiling as a 3-4 OLB. Re-signing him takes up roster space that could be used for players with more to offer long term.

No.

LOL Try not to take it so personally and be a jerk about it I would have posted it here if I could... With that being said I can't see him really coming back considering the period hes been gone this team is moving forwards not backwards.

Well, if he doesn't get picked up by another team, he will now be free to walk the Earth.

Not as big as us. No. No more clutter.

If the team sticks with the cap at 14.5M and 9M on 2 Quarterbacks (not likely but not out of the question) I would love to see how the team will go about picking up some good D vets @ OLB and CB in FA

They tried to re-sign Law this year.

Anyway, it must be a pretty rare occurence in the NFL in general, not just with the Pats.

Are you saying you think TBC would be an upgrade over Colvin? I'm of the opposite opinion. I think I'd rather have Rosie back before TBC.

Not sure either one of them would help all that much, Colvin seems to have lost his desire and always thought that TBC was overrated.

Wasn't Banta-Cain a 6th or 7th round pick if i remember correctly?:D I also remember him being invisible in the 06 AFC championship against the Colts. From what i recall he took the deal with the 49ers to go back home being that he's from the bay area. We don't need him.

Pass on TBC he was always a disappointment, maybe for like bottom basement dirt cheap.

Cain seems to be another in the long list of players who leave the Pats for big money deals and never seem to equal the success they had with the Pats. Did he even play in the Pats vs. SF game this past season? (Feels a bit odd to type "past season")
