This was a hot topic the day after the SB but here is Donaldson's take:
Jim Donaldson: Calm down Steelers fans, Pats are still team of the decade | New England Patriots | projo.com | The Providence Journal

I obviously agree but he does make solid points that are hard to argue if you are not a Pats fan and fall on the other side of the argument. Points that I may add were raised by many on this board.

Here's are piece:

The Patriots of New England have won three Super Bowls in this decade and came within seconds of winning a fourth. Twice, the Patriots advanced to the Super Bowl by upsetting the favored Steelers in Pittsburgh. In 2001, the Steelers had given up the fewest points in the AFC. The Patriots won, 24-17, as Drew Bledsoe came off the bench when Tom Brady was injured late in the second quarter and quickly threw a touchdown pass. In 2004, the Steelers had given up the fewest points in the NFL. The Patriots put up 41 and won by two touchdowns, then went on to win their second straight Super Bowl, their third in four years.

For those of you counting in Pittsburgh, that’s three in this decade, to the Steelers’ two. The Patriots have been to four Super Bowls in this decade, twice as many as the Steelers. The year the Pats lost the Super Bowl, they went undefeated during the regular season -- only the second team in modern NFL history to accomplish that feat.

In addition, the Patriots nearly went to a fifth Super Bowl, almost upsetting the high-scoring Colts in Indianapolis in the 2006 AFC championship game.

So that’s five AFC championship game appearances, four AFC titles, and three Super Bowl wins in nine years for New England. Pittsburgh has four AFC championship game appearances, two AFC titles, and two Super Bowl wins.

So having a good backup QB who only played in 2 losses and a half of one postseason game, won them a Lombardi, in 2001. Would they have won the Lombardi if Bledsoe didn't come in to relieve the injured Brady, in that AFCG?

How much "waste of money" was it to pay Bledsoe his exorbitant salary that year, "to hold a clipboard"? Was that worth it?

Insurance salesmen must love you :D

You miss the point though - Tom Brady was a 6th round pick with no experience. Granted, we now know he was one of the smartest and most talented QBs ever to take the NFL field - but the point was that was the backup QB situation BB went into the season with. Drew was not the backup when 2001 began, he was the starter, [though plenty of media guys from then tell you his days were numbered, regardless of the Mo Lewis hit]. The backup player was making less than a milli. And Drew was traded at the end of the season. So to quote the Big O, "you're making my point",

They forgot to mention the 2 NFL winning streaks.:D

I want to like Steeler fans, I really do, just like I want to like that kid down the end of the block who wears the hockey helmet everywhere he goes so he doesn't crack his coconut open because he can't help himself, but when I read them accusing someone else of being cheaters and bragging about their six super bowl wins, it reminds me how much I effin hate their entire fan base.

Arrogant and brain dead is no way to go through life, but there you have it............

The Steelers are:
- the 80's Pistons to the 80's Lakers and Celtics
- the 80's Giants to the 80's 49ers
- The 90's Rockets to the 90's Chicago Bulls

I could write an article about the sky being blue and it will contain as much new information.

Well, if for no other reason then the fact we have 3 and they have 2 this decade. If they end up winning next year then we still have that whole undefeated, record breaking season to hang our hat on.

Case closed. Next???
