*Blockbuster trade: KC sends #3 and TE Tony Gonzalez to Philly
for the Eagles #21, #28, and a conditional 2nd round pick in 2010.

**Draft day trade: Skins swap #13 for the Bears 1st and 3rd.

***Draft day trade: Pats Matt Cassel to the Texans for #15.

Round One

1. Detroit – DE Brian Orakpo, Texas
Jim Schwartz will see shades of “The Freak,” Jevon Kearse.

2. Saint Louis – QB Matthew Stafford, UGA
The Rams are trying to create a new identity. In steps Stafford.

3. *Philadelphia (from KC) – RT/OG Andre Smith, Alabama
Philly wanted Jeff Otah in 2008, and now find a better version.

4. Seattle – DE Everett Brown, Florida St
Jim Mora wants to add a premier pass rusher. That’s Brown.

5. Cleveland – ILB Rey Maualuga, USC
Maualuga paired with star D’Qwell Jackson is instant intensity.

6. Cincinnati – WR Michael Crabtree, TT
After sending out an S.O.S for a WR in 2008, he’s irresistible.

7. Oakland – NG B.J. Raji, BC
The fact that Raji was unblockable at the Senior Bowl is enough.

8. Jacksonville – LT Eugene Monroe, Virginia
With no clear top prospect at OT, it comes down to who fits where.

9. Green Bay – LT Jason Smith, Baylor
With no glaring needs, the Packers may entertain trade offers.

10. San Francisco – LT Michael Oher, Mississippi
Give ‘em a whip and a fire the size of his ass and he’ll be alright.

11. Buffalo – SSLB Aaron Curry, Wake Forest
The Bills will fall in love with Curry’s athleticism and versatility.

12. Denver – DB Malcolm Jenkins, OSU
The Broncos will be looking to add a playmaker in the secondary.

13. **Chicago (from Washington) – DE Aaron Maybin, PSU
With only 4 picks, the Skins’ #13 is in play: Maybin, the wildcard.

14. New Orleans – CB/FS Sean Smith, Utah
6’-3” shutdown CB: ex-WR/TB: 4.3 speed: film room junkie.

15. ***New England (from Houston) – WR/RB/ST Percy Harvin, Florida
Belichick likes to ask: “What can this player do for us?” A: Everything!

16. San Diego – MLB James Laurinaitis, Ohio State
Should see his draft stock rebound leading up to the actual draft.

17. NY Jets – DE Clay Matthews, III, USC
Matthews will still play the “elephant” position, but in the 46D.

18. **Washington (from Chicago) – C Alex Mack, Cal
The Skins make a nice move down to grab the line’s new anchor.

19. Tampa Bay – QB Mark Sanchez, USC
The Bucs’ John Gruden finally gets a top QB…Oops! Sorry, John.

20. Detroit (from Dallas) – SSLB Brian Cushing, USC
The Lions want to upgrade their LB’s and strong side is the key.

21. *Kansas City (from Philly) – QB Josh Freeman, Kansas State
Pioli finds a Tom Brady disciple in the strong-armed Freeman.

22. Minnesota – DE Robert Ayers, Tennessee
A four star LB recruit who gave Michael Oher and Andre Smith fits.

23. New England – CB Mike Mickens, Cincinnati
Forget “measurables.” Mickens’ productivity is too great to ignore.

24. Atlanta – FS Louis Delmas, Western Michigan
Delmas is being compared to Bob Sanders and Michael Griffin.

25. Miami – MLB Gerald McRath, Southern Miss
McRath is highly productive and rightly called a “man among boys.”

26. Baltimore – DB Vontae Davis, Illinois
Davis could use some work but the raw talent is definitely there.

27. Indianapolis – WR Jeremy Maclin, Missouri
Maclin creates heavy pre-draft “top ten” buzz but this is realistic.

28. *KC (from Philly through Carolina) – RB Shonn Greene, Iowa
Greene has the consistency and toughness that they badly need.

29. NY Giants – RB Chris “Beanie” Wells, OSU
Unless Wells proves healthy and fast, he’ll tumble, and tumble far.

30. Tennessee – DT Peria Jerry, Mississippi
Whether or not they can keep Haynesworth, Jerry would be a lift.

31. Arizona – RB Knowshon Moreno, UGA
Nice effort down the stretch, but it’s all over now for “Edge.”

32. Pittsburgh - CB Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest
Size is a minor concern but he can create turnovers like few others.

Watch for Round 2, coming soon.

You had to go and give yourself a 5 star rating eh?

I don't mind the Mickens pick if we have two picks in the 1st round, but I'd rather have heyward-bey in the 2nd than spend a mid first rounder on another WR/whatever. I'd rather have a future Moss replacement in a WR. Never the less you put a lot of thought into it, and that's cool. Good job.

If I could rate it higher, I would. But, lol, w/e. (jk)

"heyward-bey"? So overhyped! Borderline round 2-3.

Glad you enjoyed it. That's what it's all about. Thanks.

I think Heyward-Bey is more raw (but has more upside in the NFL imo And our 2nd 2nd rounder would be good on him I think.), but overhyped is questionable. No more so than Harvin. :)

Yeah all this is fun. I hate the guys who come in and bash the hell out of mocks and get so wrapped up in it. It's just for fun.

Mickens isn't even a 1st rounder and you just spent a mid 1st round pick on an H back? That's the worst 1st round mock for the Pats that I've seen so far this offseason.

I can't even begin to fathom your Philly-KC trade.

Really.

Why would KC do that?

Seriously. #3 alone = #21 + #28 + 2010 pick + cap savings.

Miguel seems to think the actual salary of early picks is overblown by 2/3rds. So is the cap savings, especially if you're including Tony Gonzalez. In fact, it would not surprise me at ALL to see KC coming out of that trade owing more than Philly. Plus, Gonzalez is still worth a 2nd, IMO. So, essentially, you have the #3 pick going for #21 and #28. I don't think that's enough, and the conditionality of the 2nd is also a problem. Needs to be a 2nd, no if ands or buts.

Orakpo at #1? I don't get that.

Harvin is a playmaker there is no doubt about that. And I don't think it is fair to downgrade him because Chad Jackson couldn't run routes correctly.

Mickens?????? Is he going to be healthy enough to work out at the combine???? Why would BB pass on Smith for Mickens?

That would be the worst draft ever for the Pats. Percy Harvin? I learned my lesson after Chad Jackson. Mike Mickens won't be a first round pick.

Good read. You definitely went away from "popular" opinion with a lot of picks. Like Shon Greene going before Benie and McCoy (McCoy wasn't even in the first round right?).

I'm with you on Harvin. Love him as a playermaker and competitor, but like your draft, I would only draft him if we have two first round picks.

What is your reason why the Texans would trade for him Cassel? The likeliest destination IMO for Cassel is Detroit. I'd love to get their #20 pick in the first round and their second round pick (33rd overall). I think we could really do some damage if we have those picks and also give us the flexibility to move up if we wanted to.

Also, is Mickens really that good? I didn't catch too many Cincy games and haven't read a whole lot about him.

The Philly/KC trade is the *least* of the problems with this bizarro trade scenario. Why on earth would THE TEXANS of all teams trade for Cassel? Not only did they already invest draft picks in the Schaub trade a few years ago -- who BTW is actually a good QB when he is healthy -- but they have one of the NFL's more competent and higher paid backup QBs in Rosenfels.

Literally makes zero sense. The Texans might be one of the last teams in the league to trade for Cassel.

I don't want to be demeaning but your 2 cents aren't even worth a Zimbabwe penny, a near worthless currency. Both Pats picks would be major reaches and the trades are not at all realistic.

My reasoning is simple: The Texans have a history of making similar trades (see: Matt Schaub). However, Schaub missed, I believe, 6 games, and is a major injury risk. He is due a 10 million dollar bonus next season. The Texans may decide to cut their losses and go for a healthier and a more athletic player, in Cassel, who, needless to say, fits the WCO better than Schaub.
It also struck me, while watching the Texans, how good they'd be with him.

Their starter can't stay on the field. Their backup, outperformed him every single time, except for when it counted: game time. I believe he is also a FA. Neither is a franchise QB.
