The Rams are looking to trade T Holt or Orlando Pace & they are asking for
a 3rd round pick.

They are not the players they use to be, but I would take either of them (for our 3rd) if they would take a cut in pay.

Torry Holt

I would MAYBE consider Pace, but we need to get younger on the O-line and defense...neither of those guys help that.

A 3rd for either player is way too much. They have a shelf life of maybe 2 years tops.

Holt had 64 catches for almost 800 yards last year. It may have been a step down from his previous years, but he's only 32 years old. As a #3 option, he's probably better than Jabar Gaffney.

Pace, on the other hand, is really old and not half the player he once was.

But when you consider the QB situation in STL last year, and the O line, that number doesn't look to bad.

I would certainly take Holt for a 3rd.

Well - Corey Dillon's shelf life ended up being basically one, crazy year. I think he was worth the 2nd the Pats paid for him.

Not saying these guys would do the same, but if either had 2 really good years left, they'd definitely be worth a 3rd. Here's the problem : I'm not so sure they HAVE 2 really good years left.

They would not be able to double Holt if he played with Moss & Welker.
I would love to add a veteran like Holt who would be an upgrade over
Gaffney.

We could afford to part with our 3rd, because we will probably be getting
a 3rd round comp pick for losing Asante Samuel. We would need to trade
our 3rd round pick because you cannot trade comp picks.

If we lived in a world where Gaffney was actually the biggest problem, I think we'd all be more than happy.

Truth be told, I'm a lot more concerned with the D thatn Gaffney.

edit : I agree that our 3rd will be of less value, as I too think they'll get a 3 for losing Samuel.

Gaffney is good, I went to a Ram game this year and Holt just doesnt have any explosion left. He is old and gets paid to much. Just not worth it.

Despite the one costly play by Gaffney, how would a new #3 receiver for a year or two be more valuable than a third round pick?
Plus, what makes you think Holt would even accept Gaffney's role here? Gaff is a third option who is often asked to do the dirty work, such as blocking on the bubble screen. Holt is a career #1.

What do you expect to get with a third round pick? Armchair GMs tend to overvalue lower round picks. Real GMs don't. Corey Dillon was worth it.

actually real GM's tend to over value draft picks - ex: Marshall fualk for a 4th and 7th round pick.
-You can almost always get a solid running back in the 3rd round and at least a solid ST contributer with potential.

Holt for a third would be a good deal. Remember, the Pats may get an additional 3rd pick for the loss of Samuel. In fact, a lot of people on this board complain about Gaffney and suggest the Pats should get a better option for a #3 receiver. Holt is an excellent route runner and would excel getting balls thrown his way from Tom Brady. Also, he will receive mostly single coverage because of the threat of Moss and Welker. Of course his numbers are down when the Ram's QB's are constantly in and out of the line-up, injuries and poor play displayed by the O-line. The Pats are not going to keep all of their draft picks this season. They will either trade for a player or trade it for a potentially better pick next season. I would love the idea of the Pats trading for Torry Holt.

Id be fine with it if and only if he took a massive pay cut. Im talking Gaffney money.

No #1-4 draft picks for offensive players who aren't linemen or tight ends, please! Let's spend on defense.

Yup. That's what I said - SB is worth WHATEVER. If someone told me Gutz would lead the Pats to the SB, I'd be the first one on the trade all of our QBs bandwagon (obv. waaay overboard to prove point, but you get it) !

I'd be ALL for using the 3rd to get one of those guys IF they had a few good years left. Problem is, I'm not in the know enough to forsee if either guy has anything left in the tank (though I'd have to think that Brady would be able to get Holt the ball more than Bulger and friends).

That's a poor example because that was highway robbery. Marshall Faulk was worth at least a 1st round pick considering the numbers he put up in St. Louis. Hmm kind of reminds me of the Moss trade...

You'd have to be ******ed NOT to trade a 3rd for Torry Holt. That's absurd, this story can't be true.
