I'm 100% for youth at linebacker, but I'd welcome a quality guy like him for a transition year or two because of character, smarts and pass rush but he's not a linebacker.

No sense in transitioning at this point.

I do have a problem with the almost ten year gap between Mayo and the next youngest linebacker, but we do have some really smart vets on the roster and shadow roster.

Junior Seau is a flat out freak and could still contribute in case of injury so we don't end up with 3 or 4 rookies or 2nd year players.

I don't think Colvin wants to play, but he's certainly in his prime if healthy.

i dont care anything about those teams, or their systems which arent as good as ours. We simply need a player who is good off the edge

Not saying a good player off the edge wouldn't be great - it would. I guess I'll retry saying what I originally meant to say :

Looking for Pats to aquire good defensive players. Can be outside rushers, but needn't be. Think that some on this board are overly in love with rushers, but understand their value to a football team. Maybe recent defensive teams such as Steelers and Giants have made rushers more attractive to fans than BB.

We cool ? Good, now let's take a gander at Real World's girls again.

thats not what im saying; we have always had good pass rushers, they got old. We simply need someone who could allow us to get the pressure we used to get.

OK.

But I'm saying that Ted Jhson wasn't a pass rusher, nor was Ty Law or Ted Washington. But if we can acquire that type of player, with that type of production, I'd be all for it. Not for one second am I suggesting we NOT go for rushers.

Haha, I think were agreeing and wording it differently.

Yes. I think I didn't express myself properly the first time. Have nothing bad to say about rushers, but I do think some (maybe not you) would want rushers at all cost (see Gholston 2008) and I'd prefer solid defenders (Mayo's not a rusher, for instance).

'Nough of that. We on same wave length now.

Exactly. After all, there are plenty off good spots still available. I look at the LB position and I only see 3 100% locks. Ok, probably only 2, because I'd probably put Vrabel at about 99% rather than 100%, but it's still 3 for all in tents and papooses (hat tip: Keegs for his porpoises)

I expect Bruschi and Guyton to be back, and Woods will probably be wanted back as well. After that, it's a crap shoot, and that includes Mr. Crable. Furthermore, there's also the potential for some time at DE when the team goes with 4 linemen.

Whether you place him as a linebacker or a d-lineman, there's a spot for the old guy. But as we so often say on this board, it's only worth it if the price is right.

Jerod Mayo is a crap shoot?

i was a fan of giving a 3rd or 4th last yr for taylor. i just think that as an olb pass rusher he is rediculously talanted. that said alot of stars would have to align for it to happen. salary, desire, personality e.t.c

Rushing the passer is not a trend; it is one of the cornerstones of winning football across every competitive level.

Bingo. You'd figure that after last year's SB, more Patriots fans would appreciate what pressure on the QB can do.
