Jason Taylor

[Real World]

Before he was traded to the Skins, there was talk about his desire to play for the Patriots. If he's released (he'd save the Skins $6 million if he is), should the Pats look at signing him, and would he come here? The Pats pass rush could use a boost IMO, and Taylor, while in his mid 30's, could probably provide some pressure from the edge, in a situational role. What say you?

The Redskins are expected to approach Jason Taylor about returning in 2009 at a reduced salary.
Taylor isn't worth his $8 million salary. He admitted as much late last season, so perhaps Taylor would be open to the pay cut with some convincing. For now, however, the writing on the wall says he'll be a cap casualty. Jan. 27 - 2:34 pm et

Youth movement or not I bet Brady and Matt Light would love to have him on their team. I bet he will still want to be paid more then we would want for him but Brady and Light hopes he does not surface in the AFC east

Friggin' pass rush lovers. I am a winning lover... can't really say I care how the Patriots achieve it. Sure, watching a good pass rush is fun. But BB is at his best when he is defining the trend - not following it (which he never does anyways).

Pass rush is huge on defense....we did not have a good one last year. That being said Taylor at his age and is injuries last year aswell as the price is why I would shy away. Pass rush is not just fun to watch it disrupt QB vision and timing (not to say when you put a lick on him you get in his head).

Good point about BB defining a trend but he knows he need more of a rush on the QB. I just would not be comfortable with Taylor as the answer.

Right, I agree. I'd love to see Crable contribute sooner rather than later, but the team always finds room for a vet or two, especially while they are developing younger talent. Redd, Roberston, they'll hopefully land on the PS, and both have some potential as well.

Rushing the passer is not a trend; it is one of the cornerstones of winning football across every competitive level.

Exactly. After all, there are plenty off good spots still available. I look at the LB position and I only see 3 100% locks. Ok, probably only 2, because I'd probably put Vrabel at about 99% rather than 100%, but it's still 3 for all in tents and papooses (hat tip: Keegs for his porpoises)

I expect Bruschi and Guyton to be back, and Woods will probably be wanted back as well. After that, it's a crap shoot, and that includes Mr. Crable. Furthermore, there's also the potential for some time at DE when the team goes with 4 linemen.

Whether you place him as a linebacker or a d-lineman, there's a spot for the old guy. But as we so often say on this board, it's only worth it if the price is right.

I was really, really surprised at how badly he played in Washington. In '07 I still thought he had a lot left. I admit I'm really into the "younger and faster" thing on defense for us, but I'd definitely give him a shot if he were available.

Taylor would be great for the pats. We just need him to sign for cheap; maybe he will because he wants to win a bowl.
ps-pass rush isnt for show, its an intrical part of any defence. Somthing weve always had untill this season.

If Taylor was willing to take a modest deal and dedicate his offseason to football, I would be all for it. If he wants top dollar and is pursuing his acting career during the offseason, I don't think he has a place in New England. I do think Dancing with the Stars really got him out of football shape.

I agree with you... BUT : when the Pats were winning SBs, it wasn't all out every play, send everyone in... it was McGinest in the clutch or a lineman on 3rd down. Not like the Eagles or Steelers (where it happens all out so often).

Taylor was hurt all year last year. Now he is presumably healthy going into the offseason and can properly prepare for an upcoming NFL season. If we can get him healthy, and committed, then he immediately becomes our best pass rusher. So the question would be, "Why not?"

We alreay infused some young talent into our defense last year and they'll be asked to contribute a little bit more their second year. The defensive players we draft this year would not be expected to be a major contributor in their first year (Mayo was the exception), so adding Taylor would make sense for the immediate future. Of course, the money has to make sense for it to happen.

EDIT: On a side note, I'm a big Taylor fan. The guy is super competitive and is a nice guy and easy to root for. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 8 years and frequented the same bars/clubs that he went to. He was easy to approach in public and wasn't a d!ck like most of the professional athletes that I've been around.

i dont care anything about those teams, or their systems which arent as good as ours. We simply need a player who is good off the edge
