Suppose Brady gets a career-ending injury in college...

Would the Steelers win the SB in 2001 and in 2004? IMHO they would have gone both of those years. Imagine if the Patriots were stuck in mediocrity this whole time.. AND the Steelers had 8 SBs instead of 6?

Re: Would the Steelers... ?

I probably wouldn't care because I wouldn't despise the Steelers as much as I do. That said, they'll be squashed again if they try to get in our way next year. We are their kryptonite.

Agreed. Brady has always had the answer for them. Just a late night thought for ponderance

I can't imagine that. It's like wondering how the dinosaurs would have turned out if the asteroid never hit.

I don't know who I hate more...the Jets or the Steelers. Now that Mangini's gone, I think it's the Steelers.

No way. Not the same for me here. I grew up hating the Jets. I only recently started hating the Steelers. The only out of disivion team that I might hate more than the Jets is the Colts... and they used to play in our division.

Now THAT would have been SWEEEEEEET!! Damn you Tom Brady! Damn you and your ridiculously hot girlfriend!

Are you sure you meant to say "damn" when you were talking about Gisele?

As an aside, I really do not think she is that hot. I think Adriana Lima (if we're comparing Victoria's Secret models) is EASILY ten times hotter.

Re: Would the Steelers... ?

Dont worry about the Steelers. As a Colts fan I feel they still need to beat the Pats in the playoffs. Heck we did it. They need to now. But, I dont think they will even if you guys meet up next year. I cant believe how lucky the Steelers are overall. But its that much more satisfying to win a SB getting by the Patriots on the way.

On that note I will go and cry over our new daddy; San Diego.

Yeah what is up with Peyton v.s. that defense? Even Big Ben did not have any problems whatsoever with surgically cutting his way through it, hitting them up for 30+.

But eh, he'll get over it that hump. He always does. Remember those days when he used to have a lot of trouble moving the ball against Bruschi and Company?

Our run D and rushing O get owned by SD. So do our special teams. We can never run the ball on them and we can never stop the run. We can stop LT but Turner owned us and Sproles owns us now.

Not to mention our run game was horrible last year. Many blame our line, I think it might be our backs. Face it, Edge was awesome in his prime. Addai and Rhodes cant compare.:( Addai was a wuss for the last season and a half. Its hard for me to blame the line fully, they can protect Manning but cant run block? Addai simply does not hit the hole anymore and is afraid to get hurt, we pretty much gave up on running the ball. If he does improve next year who knows but I would like an explosive back to help out.

Our passing offense is fine and I even think is better when Marvin is not out there to be force fed balls. (I think Marv is gone)

Gone like a gun at a car wash?;)

Well none of that matters to me at the moment. I like the guy but unless he takes a mother of a paycut I think he is out. He gets paid way too much for pretty much being our best receiving option behind Wayne, Gonzalez and Clark.

It will be tough to see him on another team but I think his days are over even though many Colts fans still think he can return from injury next year. He will be 37.:(

The Caldwell era does not appear to be as loyal either, so this will be interesting to say the least this offseason....

Tough to see a great player decline. :( Peyton to Marvin has not been there for a while now.

Doesn't Caldwell want to completely rearrange the Colts' defense as well? I heard somewhere that he's planning to make the defensive line beefier, but I can't tell you exactly where I read it or how true it is.

Caldwell does want to get more talent at DT and more wrinkles on defense I also hear. We just hired Coyer who was with the Broncos all those years. I think you will see some different wrinkles on the D but still pretty much the same defense overall. We might blitz now. We were a pretty easy defense to gameplan against I always felt. We'll see what happens. But I am okay with some change. We got stale I felt.

Sorry for turning this away from the Steelers.:D

Sounds like how the Pats had problems with the Broncos years ago. We could not win in Denver no matter what team we had...even when they sucked!

Questionable whether they might have beaten the Rams. But they very well could have beaten the Eagles. On the other hand, could they Raiders have beaten the Steelers in the 2001 AFFC? Remember they were competing with them for the #1 seed most of that season until they had a 3-game tailspin at the end of the season.

And what if San Francisco never landed Montana and Young? Would the Cowboys have 8 Super Bowl wins?

And what if Big Ben was injured in college?

It is what it is.

The Steelers would still have had Kordell Stewart at QB in '01 and '03 so I doubt they would have won either year.

In '01 they would have had to have beaten Oakland and St. Louis. Maybe they get by the former but they likely don't get past the latter.

In '03 they would have had to beat Indy and Carolina. Maybe they would have won it all, but maybe (and with Kordell at QB I think it is likely) not.

This post nails it. I was going to bring up the nightmare that was the Kordell Stewart era.

With him we don't win big games. With him we don't draft Big Ben.

With him, we are still a playoff team that loses time and time again against teams we are favored to beat.

They're just not that good. They were gifted SB XL and won SB XLIII by a defensive player running a pick 100 yards. Now I'm not saying that shouldn't count but, it was the luck equivalent of last year's helmet catch. I just don't see them winning more rings this decade than they did. With or without a Patriot dynasty.

The thing is, looking as how Belichick turned a 7th round pick and also a 6th round pick into solid QB's their first year with almost identical stats, how do you know Belichick wouldn't have found ANOTHER QB, put him through the Belichick QB School, and come out with similar stats and a similar smart decision-making style of play?
