Well ... the LA Dodgers have just proved they sit atop the dunce class. If I am wrong please correct me but bidding against themselves the Dodgers have just signed Manny for 1 year at $25 million. Manny previously rejected a 2-year $45 million contract.

Poor Varitek could only get $5 million from a team bidding against itself. Even me ... I the non-Varitek fan would rather have Tek at $5 million than Manny at $25 million. For around the same money this year we signed Pedy, Youk, Papelbon, Varitek and Brad Penny.

Manny had one of the best 1/2 seasons a player could have last year ... that got the Dodgers a ticket home for the season. Derek Lowe, one of their best pitchers is now a Brave ... Frank McCourt ... glad your purchase of the Red Sox never materialized ... really. I know ... I'm babbling ... I'm tired ... I just had to remark on this inane signing

Manny is realistically on track to become the greatest right handed hitter of all time. He has won everywhere he's been in his career. He was the key part in 2 Sox championships. He's never had a major drop in production, and just had one of the strongest post-season performances in a long time.

25M is about right, when you look at the other crazy contracts being handed out in the league, like Barry Zito's or the fat lard they just signed to the Yanks.

By the numbers you have a good point. But who exactly were they bidding against?

25m is just an offer, I think he has 48 hours to accept or move on.

if they low ball manny he just might take the offer then dog it the whole year. logic does not apply when dealing with manny.

You're right. Giving Manny a one year deal is only asking for trouble.

he could do anything. he might get pissed off if he thinks hes not making enough. anybody who signs him to less than what he thinks he should get is taking a huge risk that he will just quit and put it on cruise control.

Torre better start doubling up on his Nexium now.

That's essentially what I am also saying...why even sign him, he's a big douchebag? IMO they are selling their soul to the devil. They need pitching and all McCourt cares about is selling tickets.

The fact that he's liable to dog it is exactly why you only give him one year.

The Dodgers lost Lowe and Penny.

They have a staff of:
-Billingsley
-Kuroda
-Kershaw
-Shmidt
-fill in the blank

Oh but Manny will rake ... or will he.
To think we could have had McCourt instead of John Henry & Co. ... very nice twist of fate IMO.

Well ... this thread is now obsolete ... like Manny will be very soon.

Just who is bidding against the Dodgers besides nobody?

Blame Boras, not Manny the simpleton.

Dumb move, but Manny didn't quit last year, look at his Sox stats last year, he was still our best hitter by far even in the month he supposedly 'quit' by the Boston propaganda machine

You're kidding right?
It wasn't just about stats ... it was about being a huge clubhouse thorn.

Are you including the days he took off and when he had to have both legs checked for problems because he forgot which leg was injured.

No doubt Manny was being an idiot in an immature way to achieve his goal of getting out of town. But he barely missed any games that month and hit like an all star, did you see his stats?

Boras is/was a HUGE influence on Manny, likely told him to do anything to get forced out, even if it meant burning his legacy.

Quitting on the team and not performing are two entirely different things. Did he perform well? Of course. No one has argued otherwise. But he acted like an immature asshat the whole time and forced his way out of town. Trying to get traded is quitting on your team.

As far as Boras... lots of people are represented by Boras. How many others have gone on a very public tirade against their team to assure they were traded? Manny hired Boras for a reason.

Boras was never in a prior situation where he wouldn't get paid unless he completely destroyed a player's relationship with a city. He had to get out of Manny's options if he wanted any commission. He's the devil.

Why do I have a feeling he's going to be a Yankee before this is over?

I completely agree. And Manny knew that too.

Like I said, Manny hired Boras for a reason. Manny knew Boras would get nothing if Boston picked up his option, ergo Manny knew Boras would want him traded. Manny knew that hiring Boras would get him shipped out of town.
