Larry Fitzgerald credits Randy Moss as one of the reasons for his success

Fitzgerald seems to be a very humble guy and a player who is at the top of his game and one of the best WRs in the league giving some of his success to learning football from Moss when Larry was a ballboy with the Vikings

Not really the same game as Moss. I have wanted to start a thread on a Moss/Fitzgerald comparison, so maybe now would be the time to give it a go.

Fitzgerald's game is brute strength and athletism. He can out muscle for the ball in traffic ball, and out leap for the moon ball...neither a staple of Moss (at least the most recent version). The talking heads say he is not a burner, so I will take their word. LF will initiate contact and has the body to win those battles.

Moss' game these days is strictly speed and smarts. Since Cassel was ineffective getting Moss the deep ball, it is tough to say if he has lost a step or two...but I have to admit I didn't see Randy outsprinting many DBs (on TV). Rarely does Moss extend for the ball and he seems to prefer to play mind games with DBs when the ball is headed his way. He rarely takes on the tackler, often hitting the dirt when completing a crossing pattern. No question he is the focus of the secondary, though. When Brady returns, we should get a better idea if Randy still has "It".

I saw plenty of chances where he got behind the defense and could have had several steps on a DB if he didn't have to slow down and wait for the ball. I agree he tries to avoid the big hit, but after seeing some of the ones welker took I can't blame him. Getting TB back next year will be fun to watch.

Are you talking about extended your hands out to catch the ball? If so then Moss has mastered the art of catching at the last moment. Some commentators have mentioned this in his games. The deal is that he doesn't let the DB know that the ball is coming until the last second.

If you are talking about going up and catching or extending his body to catch on every balls (like you see Fitz doing this year) then not so much now compared to when he was younger. I think he learned that he can get seriously hurt like when he got injured on a leap ball in the middle of the field with the Raiders that cost him haft the season. Of course Moss is a veteran...so he will go up for balls in certain situation...especially the goal line. Remember that game with the Bengals last year when he leaped over the DB and twisted his body in bound for the TD?

No, he's only started doing this during his Patriot years. With the Vikings, he was more aggressive and didn't let any DB have a chance at defending the ball. The guy could jump through the roof! His play is a mirror image of what Fitzgerald is doing during the playoffs (in terms of going after the ball). The dude (Moss) was literally unstoppable with the Vikings! I've never seen such a ridiculous, dominating athlete at WR since Jerry Rice. He was Jerry Rice with 4.3 speed. However, there were a couple of long balls thrown to him this year that could have been caught had he been more aggressive for the ball. Randy Moss is the one guy who I really want to see win a superbowl before his time is up.

Best all around WR in the NFL hands down, have nothing but respect for the guy. Glad to see Moss had an influence on his success.
