Take it for what it's worth, but, according to Michael David Smith, Brady "was running on a treadmill and skipping rope" . . . around the time Curran's gloom and doom report came out.

Smith says his sources expect Brady to be ready Week 1, and that Cassel will be franchised and traded.

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

"A very knowledgeable source told me quite confidently that Tom Brady will be ready to start the season" -- Michael Smith

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

The more I hear, the more I think Curran was fed bad information. Smith has almost as many contacts as Curran does, maybe more. Adam Schefter did say there is at least one disgruntled Patriots medical staff member spreading false information. He/she could have been Curran's source.

I'm sorry. I know people want to believe Curran because he is Tom E. Curran, but guys like Michael Smith and Michael Silver are just as connected to either the Pats' organization and/or Brady as Curran and they are giving completely different information.

I would believe Curran's story more if there was at least one guy who would remotely back up what he is saying when it comes to him being so far behind schedule and that he won't even be ready to start seriously rehabbing for another month or two. At some point, even he needs to start to question whether he was sold a bill of goods.

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

maybe we shouldnt trade him then.

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

Theres some new paparazzi pics of Tom in mexico(yesterday), in swim trunks, his knee looks perfectly normal, can't even see a scar ,.... Brady will be fine in 09.

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

maybe there was no injury at all to Brady's knee...this was a genious way to promote Cassel and get a first rounder for him, while letting Brady rest for a year. It all makes sense now. BB is GOD

You must be joking. At this point, we could at least get a third and a fifth for him~!

Finally, some Brady news that doesn't make the sky fall.

Good news.

Week one is way too late for Brady's rehab. Not having played in the preseason last year, and not during the season, he will be rusty and need some tuneup games. These need to come in the pre-season. Otherwise we might have a repeat of 2008. Closing like a bull, but trying to get in to the Tourney at 11-5 or 12-4. Or making it and having three road games to get to the Bowl.

He didn't say he wouldn't be ready for presason. You are Tom Curran aren't you.

Thanks for the heads up, ctpatsfan.

Just a little clarification, though -- the report you link to is by former Patriots beat reporter for the Boston Globe Michael Smith, and not Michael David Smith, who used to write for PFT and AOL's NFL Fanhouse, and was basically a shameless, sensationalist sleazebag.

No! Just a guy who tries to put himself inside BB's head; emulate the way Belichick is, ruthlessly, coldly rational, and properly prudent.:(

Did you watch the clip? The clear implication is that he will be ready in full health to start game one after a normal pre-season.

Try and hijack this all you want, the fact of the matter is that someone with a track record is yet another to the list of people (including Silver, Shefter, King, Casserly) who have said Brady should be ready to go for 2009. It's them against you and Curran.

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

Curran's about to come on Comcast Sports Tonight, undoubdedly to refute this . . .

That was so funny!:D

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

Curran didn't say anything, just that no-one, Michael Smith, the Patriots, whoever can be sure he'll be ready to start the season. Which we know. Curran did say he thinks Brady will play this season but he can't say for sure week one. Of course, all Smith said is the Patriots are confident; which means "rehab is going well".

I think it's in the Patriots best interest to keep as much uncertainty as possible circulating about Brady's status. I wouldn't be surprised if we have another conflicting story from a "very good source" in the next few weeks.

Re: Another data point on Brady's rehab

Based on the recovery of other athlete's with similar knee injuries and repairs, the straight-ahead stuff comes early. Running on a treadmill and jumping rope keep the legs in a straight line. It's the side-to-side stuff that is much more uncertain.

At this point, we really have no idea when Brady will be ready. The doctor's really have no idea. Brady has no idea. There are schedules and rehab progress. But will Brady be ready for moving around in the pocket in July? Will he be ready for contact in August? Impossible to know before July and August.
