Re: KC STAR Sports blog calling for the team to get Cassel.

Jenkins or Crabtree.

I would cream my pants

If the price is looking like a #1 + another pick in 2010 I could see a team with a lowish #1 like TB, Minn, Jest, just signing him as a Franchised player and giving up the two #1s, this year and next. Unlikely. But possible. If the price is a #1 and a #2 and you want the guy, it's not unreasonable to pay a little more to remove the competition.

Question: Does Scott Pioli like Cassel enough to give up the #3 pick?

Answer: Given that Pioli's a former Patriot, how the hell are we supposed to know?

Just where and when do you geniuses figure that Belichick will get a top ten pick to draft that stud Lineman?

From the same 7th round/UDFA bin you project a pickup to easily replace the #6 in the first round, Richard Seymour? I thought so. Draftniks always amaze me.:p

[sarcasm off]

Neither Warren nor Wilfork were top 10 picks......

Re: KC STAR Sports blog calling for the team to get Cassel.

No Gonzo, let him enjoy his twilight years in KC helping Cassdawg get off to a good start.

Agreed.....how old is this guy anyways......He has been a great talent in this league, and perhaps one of the best to play the position....but he is getting a bit long in the tooth...and heading towards the downside of his career isn't he?

And neither is the Foundation tackle that Seymour is. How many pro-bowl appearances for them combined, versus SeyMonsta? But Warren was the top 12th. The Pats moved up a spot to insure the Bears didn't trade for picks.

Wilfork was projected to Top Ten, maybe Top Five; and then just slid, and slid, and slid, as Teams drafted needs ... No one could believe it; including Bill himself!

Want to wager how often that happens? ;)

Ok, if you're seriously going to claim that Wilfork isn't a "foundation" tackle, there's really nothing worth talking about. Wilfork may be the best 3-4 NT in the game.

A fan blog site doesn't exactly qualify as credible. It's not like the Chiefs themselves are saying this.

It's the blog for the Kansas City Star, so it's a cut above "a fan blog site."

Pioli may want to trade down the #3 pick,he seems to be wary of the money that they request in the top ten draft positions,I would not be surprised to see some deals proposed to other teams .He is also aware of the need for a good qb to build the team around,MC would fit the bill.

As far as I'm aware, many Chiefs fans would like to see Thigpen as the starting QB next year. Herm and Chan Gailey did a terrific job of re-writing the offense mid-season for him, and it worked really well by all accounts. Just a shame the D was utter garbage.

This deal won't happen. Why? Think about the kind of backlash would KC management face giving the #3 overall pick to the GM's old boss. As they said on WEEI, it would be Pioli doing business with his daddy. Also, I will say with confidence that the Patriots do not want the 3rd pick overall, it would badly mess the salary structure.

Thigpen looks fine to me. He played well despite working with very little (Gonzalez, Bowe, no running game and a rookie OL). KC needs to build an entire team, not just one position on it.

No way they give up the #3 for MC. No way. Pioli is from the school of build through mutliple picks. They trade down and get a LB around the 8-10 mark.

Seriously I like MC and think he's got a ton of upside but he's not worth a #3 pick, plus im not sure we'd want to be stuck with it in a draft where theres a lot of depth

However I do think KC would give up the 2nd and a high conditional 2010 (1st or 2nd)- and if they did that would that encourage Minn, TB etc to offer a 1st?

Re: KC STAR Sports blog calling for the team to get Cassel.

It wouldn't necessarily be KC's #1 (3rd overall) for Cassel straight up. It could be Cassel + NE's #1 for KC's #1.

That would be one hell of a bad deal, trade away a proven qb in a league that has about 12 of them if even that and also send our #1, and with nothing but unproven junk in the draft at the qb spot?

More like KC gets Cassel which then KC sends this years #1and also next years #1. Sounds insane until you look at the state of qb's in college and realize how cheap two #1's are for a franchise qb thats already proven he can play in this league!

Guys, Cassel would defiantly be worth a # 3 pick as he could be one of the top 20 QB's in the game right now and getting better. Who at # 3 is that good in the draft to step in and start at QB in the NFL. Starting successful NFL QB's are very hard to find so I would bet that Detroit would trade their first overall to get a proven winner at QB which he was last year.

That being said I agree we do not want the #3 pick as BB hates drafting that high. As far as Pioli goes he is not going to do any favors to the Pats as he has totally new priorities. Maybe he will just try to make deals with Miami due to his father in law running the show???

Thigpen is just terrible, he throw's the ball up for grabs too many times and was lucky TG and Bowe made some great catches. From what I have seen he is a adequate backup but does not have the arm strength to make all the throws in this league. Please just watch film....I know his OLine was bad but he was lucky throwing the ball up for grabs quite a few times.

Considering the contract Cassel is going to get, I can't see any team parting with a a top 10 pick for him.

I am hoping Detriot or KC gives us their 2nd round pick this year AND a conditional 2010 pick (2nd, 3rd or 4th)

If I was Detriot, I would trade the 2nd rounder to us and draft LOT Smith at #1. It eats up a ton of cap space but they have filled two huge holes and they still have Dallas's first rounder to help a pitiful defense.

With Smith at LT, Backus moves to LG, Useless Cherilus stays at RT, Ravioli stays at C and Peterman moves to RG. That OL can keep Cassel upright, give him some time to throw and the left side can move the defense in the running game.
