McDaniels left to become a head coach and Capers to become a

defensive co-ordinator. I suspect that Seely and Mangurian are

looking for more money elsewhere. When Crennel and Weis were

the Patriot's co-ordinators, they were among the lowest paid

co-ordinatiors in the NFL.

I know most people think that BB and/or Brady are the only irreplaceable parts of the equation, but running a team is still, obviously, a collaborative effort.

New blood and promotions are fine, but when it's an invaluable VP/GM and practically half the coaching staff leaving, it's worrisome.

BB can only do so much. The loss of Pioli could be especially problematic for the Pats, but what can you do?

Hopefully not. I'm hoping he will at least ride out the Brady-train and try to milk this dynasty for all the SB's its got. McDaniels and Capers both left for upgraded positions, so those moves aren't particularly alarming. It's entirely possible Mangurian will get an upgrade as well, so its difficult to read too much into these moves in regards to a BB retirement. Hopefully we get Bill's lively press conferences for many more years to come.

Does anyone know how involved Mangurian was with game planning, scouting, etc.? Because based on our consistently under achieving tight ends, I don't see this as a huge loss. If he was involved in many other facets of the daily operations, maybe this is, but I think tight end play could be improved under a new assistant.

Thats logical but it is also a jump to a conclusion. Reis answered this question in the comments and said he wouldn't assume that and that Raheem Morris worked for Mangurian at a college and Raheem may be returning the favor by helping advance his rep by giving him a promotion

Great minds I was just going to post this part of Reiss' article: " Mangurian, 53, was the lone assistant on the Patriots' staff from 2008 who had prior experience as an offensive coordinator. Mangurian was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons in 2003."

...but I think tight end play could be improved under a new assistant.

Maybe letting him walk and upgrading the TE coach is a better move than trying out a gazillion TE's. Maybe the coaching is become a bit less specific in order to become more economical. And maybe it's just time to shake the staff up a bit, hence people being given a free chance to roam.

If there were any thought that Belichick wants to retire in the near future I think all of these moves make that a clear "No!"

If Belichick does ever leave the coaching ranks for a more cushy front office job (and I don't think that will ever happen) he'll have his hand picked team largely in place.

All the coaches leaving suggests that's not happening anytime soon.

I think that would be Krafts job. Kraft may very well ask BB to either have a hand picked replacement or suggestions. But assuming BB gets to chose his replacement is not neccessarily the way it would go down. One would assume Kraft would want to keep the same mold going but he also has the coin to go find a front line coach. But this whole argument in my opinion is very mute.

If he had a plan to retire in a year or two I would guess that Pioli would have just stayed here. My guess is that Pioli knows BB isnt going anywhere for a while so he moved on. But I guess that is as speculative as assuming BB will hand pick a replacement before he is gone.

I don't think Crennel and Weis were among the lowest paid Coordinators. They weren't getting paid among the top coordinators, but that was in large part because several coordinators like Monty Kiffin got close to head coach salaries to stay on as coordinators after Romeo and Charlie got their deals. It isn't like the Pats gave either below market deals.

Also, I seriously doubt that any of the coaching staff has left the team because they were under paid. Capers was always going to only be with the Pats for a year or two. He wasn't going to spend the rest of his career as a position coach. He got a promotion to defensive coordinator. McDaniels got promoted to a head coach position. He would never have left the Pats for a lateral position. Magurian might not have left the Pats by his choice. Belichick may have fired him since the TEs were virtually non-existent last year. Even Brad Seely got a promotion because he is also assistant head coach as well as special teams coordinator.
