Features - NFL pro football articles and coverage from Pro Football Weekly

"With the help of coaches, scouts and personnel men from around the league, we at Pro Football Weekly present our list of the top 50 players of 2008, based on their performance and their value to their clubs.

All comments were made on condition of anonymity.

32. QB Matt Cassel / New England Patriots: “One of the most improved players in the league.”"

Welker was also listed. Moss and Mayo as honorable mentions. Surprised Wilfork wasn't there.

Anyway, this ranking gives me continued optimism for Cassel's trade value.

I don't see Kerry Collins on the list yet people felt he was more worthy of the Pro Bowl

Don't let Mangold see this....

Where's Brett Favre?

If you take this for face value, Seymour is not among the ten best d-linemen in the league. At his salary, I wouldn't be investing in any #93 jerseys at the Pats Pro Shop.

Yeah, because the Pats are going to take a $3.5M cap hit for the privilege of cutting a guy in the last year of his contract

It would save $3.3M, not that I think for a second they'd cut him.

Yeah, but Seymour's production isn't even close to replacable for $3.3M. So when someone says that Seymour's going to get cut because he can't justify his $9M+ salary (which he does, but that's a whole different debate), my response is that he doesn't have to. He only has to be better than someone who would be available for $3.3M...

I would think if anyone is going to get cut, it would be Jarvis Green. Whats his cap # ? 5 mil? thats alot for a part timer.

Okay moss not one of the 50 best players in the league? pffft I garauntee last year they had him listed as #2 right behind Brady

~100 players play in the Pro Bowl. This is a top-50 list. Do the math.

He probably refers to the fact that Cassel was ranked 32nd and doesn't go to Hawai, while Collins is not in the list and he is a Pro Bowler.

I'm OK with Cassel not being called, but I wonder why they didn't pick Pennington instead Collins...
