Rex Ryan introduced as New York Jets new head coach - NFL - SI.com

"We want to be known as the most physical football team in the NFL," Ryan said Wednesday morning at Jets headquarters after being introduced by team owner Woody Johnson.

"The players will have each other's backs, and if you take a swipe at one of ours, we'll take a swipe at two of yours."
well..being confident is one thing ..but what is this ?
"The only way I know how to handle a challenge is to hit that thing head on," said Ryan, decked out in a black suit and, appropriately, a green tie. "The message to the rest of the league is `Hey, the Jets are coming, and we're going to give you everything we got. And I think that's going to be more than you can handle

"I'm not a one-hit wonder," Ryan said. "When you look at my background, I think I've been successful at all stops along the way. I know the kind of responsibility it takes to be a head football coach. Again, you got the right guy -- and I plan on proving that each and every week."

interesting

Those words are meant to sell tickets/PSL's. He's gonna have a bugger of a time living up to them.

Boring as it is, I think it's wiser to say "we're just focused on the next team..."

Make no mistake about this, and disregard what is said at the podium today, this was the owner’s call. Woody Johnson fell in love with Rex Ryan and basically stopped all the Brian Schottenheimer talk by his GM. After Johnson met with Ryan, the Jets’ search was over, and GM Mike Tannenbaum was ordered to start contract talks. Johnson was captivated by Ryan, and I’m sure Tannenbaum supported the idea once he knew there was no way of talking Johnson out of Ryan. But this clearly was not the direction he was intending to proceed when he fired Eric Mangini. And part of the problem with Brian Schottenheimer staying on the staff is that someone in the building told Schottenheimer he would be free to look for other work if he didn’t get the head coach job. Now that has changed, and Schottenheimer is wondering why they’re backing out of their oral agreement.

thats an interesting dynamic. will be hilarious if Mike T is left without a job in the end after doing all the backstabbing.

Yeah, and I think you can almost bank on it. Dude's a schmuck.

Ryan's comments have this headhunting feel to them, which is bothersome.

From the news conference

We'll make our mistakes full speed.

Attack team. Its a team concept, we are going to attack on both sides of the ball.

Aggressive mentality - walkthrough speed or full speed. Full speed.

Aggressive and physical team. Run the football.

I'm going to surround myself with guys that work with me, not for me.

Kiss is not for us.

The kILL philosophy - Keep It likeable and learnable.

Aggressive mentality - walkthrough speed or full speed.

Aggressive and physical team. Run the football.

My Dad said, that's my team... Don't screw it up!

Its on.

We are going to have pride.

I know how to coach this game.

You got the right guy.

What a bunch of neanderthal huffing. How many sandwiches did he eat during this press conference?

LOL, he is a big guy.

Also said he did not have a silver tounge.

Said his Dad would be around the building, and that he would allow his coaches to be interviewed.

I'm excited, and look forward to see what Ryan can do with the Jets D, and developing Ghoulston.

More from Ryans PC

Plan on being the most physical and aggressive team in the league.

Well-coached, well-prepared.

Exciting team to watch.

Not afraid to make mistakes - we'll make our mistakes at 100 mph

Passionate and aggressive at all times - not one of these read and react, or bend but don't break teams. We'll be coming after ya!

I believe his dad was at the Ravens-Pats game last year which Tubby Wrecks messed up by going over Billick's head and calling time out right before Brady was stacked up at the line on fourth down. Buddy never did anything as a head coach either. Your Green Beans will be tough, dumb, and mediocre. My condolences.

His press conference seems to boil down to this:

"We'll officially be the opposites of the Pats"

and

"We hope to break several records for most defensive players on IR or getting fined, weekly."

From the news conference...

...You got the right guy.

That's almost exactly what his old man said when he became Arizona's HC in the early '90s. Unbelievable. Like father, like son. The 2 of them, and Crazy Robbie - ManJudas' new DC in Cleveland - are/were incapable of becoming successful HCs because they are/were pompous, undisciplined oafs who despise offensive players, incl. those on their own teams. Heck, Tubby Wrex can't even discpline his own waistline.

I'm glad the J-E-S-T hired this Ray Lewis enabler instead of Steve Spagnuolo, because the only thing in which his team will lead the league will be penalities.

It's like he's determined to establish them as Raiders East. Which would only be good for us.

Later in the evening Ryan appeared on WFAN with Mike Francesa. At one point Francesa sighted the Patriots recent dominance over the Jets and even went so far as to say the Pats have pretty much left thier boot mark over the NY Jets in recent years, to which Ryan responded … “We’ll see who’s boot is gonna be on who” … but it’s not only what he said, it’s how he said it, with that same Patton’esque mixture of swagger and disdain.

Hm... once this Cassel situation gets resolved that might just be Signature fodder.

You know, if I were a desperate Green Beans fan I'd do the same thing -- seize upon anything that even hints at a miniscule shred of hope that my team could make some noise next season. Unfortunately, the only noise you'll be hearing from that tub of lard is loud farts indicating not enough fiber in his diet. On game day those will be drowned out by his brain farts followed by loud booing from the masochistic souls populating your new shrine to grid futility.

Listened to him on the Fan last night. Some thoughts, JMHO:
He is not an eloquent speaker, more "you knows" than Wes Welker ever dropped.
Tried hard to get Mike to like him. Stated he would allow press access to his staff, unlike Parcels, Belechick and Mangini. This job isn't a popularity contest, not sure if that is what you want to do in such a major media market.
Appears that Woody is running the team, his QB choice, his coach, who had to agree to the first part. What do they need a GM for?

No one here mentioned the part of the conference when Ryan said that he "Guarantees that the Jets will be visiting Obama in the White House" and he guarantees that the Jets will win a super bowl before america selects a white president again

Racism is on the fringe there if you ask me - Ryans mouth is bigger than the talent on his team, thats for sure

What a bizarre thing to say. So, he's giving himself up to eight years. I say he lasts two years in the job. Green Beans fans will be wishing Herm had stayed before Tubby Wrecks is done.
