Steelers: Dynasty or Myth?

"Good morning, jackazz. No Pats fan is claiming a 40-year dynasty. Only a Steeler fan would. Reminds me of Celtics fans trying to connect the '08 title to the 60s/70s/80s.

It would be hilarious if AZ whooped you....Karma indeed"

Good morning to you too you effin stool sample; I'm a Patriots fan you brain dead moron, buy a clue next time you try to call me out on the forum.

So are you off the Patriots band wagon yet since they didn't make the playoffs; I hope so, turds like you stain the entire Patriots fan base.

You have to be one of those Lakers/Patriots/Yankee fans, the front running tool that you are..............

"Please explain how the Steelers late 70's dynasty is at all connected to today's team other than the fact that they are the same franchise? It isn't a dynasty now, it was then."

Relax brainiac, you'll live a lot longer. Four AFCCG's and two Super Bowl wins (unless they pull a gag job like the Patriots did last year, ie, losing to a clearly inferior team that got hot/lucky at the right time) in eight years is a success in my book.

The Patriots "should be" considered the team of the decade, unless without Casel and a gimpy Brady they go in the tank and the Steelers win another Super Bowl, then the Steelers with five AFCCG's and three Super Bowl wins in five years would be the leader in the clubhouse for that crown.

Some of you need to switch to decaf.

Ever learn how to use the "Quote" button? :)

You don't even realize the idiocy of your own statement - when's the last time the Pats/Lakers/Yankees won it all? Thank you, now back to your register at Taco Bell ;)

No one said it wasn't a success, maybe you should stop being a condescending prick?

The Steelers of the 70s are a dynasty, that's not up for argument.

This current team is not a dynasty. They are a good team, with a good QB and a great defense that is going to their 2nd SB in 4 years. Denver won back to back, they weren't a dynasty. Green Bay went to 2 in a row, they weren't a dynasty, neither were the Rams. Neither is this Steelers team.

However as a Franchise, they now have the opportunity to be considered the greatest Franchise in the Super Bowl era.

Dallas has still been to more, 8, and the 9ers never lost, so there will still be some arguments to be made for other franchises. Longevity of success also plays part. They had a run in the 70s, back tracked in the 80s, had some success in the 90s then finally won again in the new century. Franchise, ownership, coaching history, they are solid as a Franchise.

But they are not, and will not be a Dynasty until they win 2 more rings. Then this team can be talked about. As are the patriots now with 3 rings in 4 years.

This from a moron frontrunning Lakers/Patriots/fill in the blank fan who doesn't get the point; the same tool who got b!tchslapped by a mod because he got into a p!ssing contest on the Celtics board.

For you, a register at Taco Bell would be considered an executive position..........

"No one said it wasn't a success, maybe you should stop being a condescending prick?"

It wasn't a "late 70's dynasty", they dominated the whole decade. And the way this team is connected to that team is it's the same franchise is it not?

It is sustained excellence, close to 40 years of it; try wrapping yourself around that concept before you get your panties in a bunch.

Decaf Mr 493 posts; decaf.

You really come off as childish with your need to talk down to someone who doesn't agree with you.

As I said before the Steelers are the best franchise in the Superbowl era, no one denies this. The fact is that they still didn't win a Superbowl for a 26 year period, I don't consider them a 40 year "dynasty", I consider them one of the NFLs greatest all time franchises, a position I hope the Pats can match one day. But ya know, keep being a prick about the whole thing.

This from a moron frontrunning Lakers/Patriots/fill in the blank fan who doesn't get the point;

So what gives you this "frontrunning" radar - how can you prove you didn't start rooting for the Pats in 2004? Guess what? You can't :D

I hate the steelers, especially since one of their fans invented the bernard Pollard fan club t shirt.

I wanted to get your views on whether or not you think the steelers are one of the NFL's elite teams or just a myth. They were notorious for taking steriods and other substances in the 70s. Those substances were not banned until later (1989), but they were clearly performance enhancing and is not the same as lifting weights. To me, steroids is far worse than video taping. we video taped but whether it helped the team or not is questionable especially since we had two winning seasons after we got caught.

Something tells me the steelers D this year is just a product of steroids and HGH.

Dr. Richard Rydze is latest in Pittsburgh Steelers' links to performance-enhancing drugs - ESPN

Please man, you are reducing yourself to the form of our most ignorant and whiny haters. Don't do that to yourself. We are the dynasty of the millenium, and we should act like it. The Steelers of the 70s are as much a dynasty as any other.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong? Iv'e been a Patriots fan longer than you've been on this planet, I'd bet my house on it. And I've got the ticket stubs to prove it.

Now go back to rooting for the Lakers you fraud.

I actually own the Pats, I'm Robert Kraft :)

Now that statement has as much validity on a messageboard as your "stub" claim. You're whole "I'd bet on it....you're a fraud....ticket stub" rants are the height of comedy on this board. You think you're actually saying anything? :D

Iv'e seen your work on the Celtics board; that is the height of comedy on this forum. And comedy in a pathetic/sad/I feel sorry for your parents kind of way, not in a funny ha ha kind of way.

For any of you who haven't seen it, go check it out; the part I liked best is when mensa boy here gets b!tch slapped by a mod, the ultimate kick in the balls.

They're doing wonderful things these days with electroshock therapy; my suggestion is for you to look into it and while you're at it, run that coconut of yours down to the local fix it shop and get that loose screw tightened.

Oh and as far as your "how can I prove I didn't start rooting for the Patriots in 2004" comment; I hope for your sake you are not basing that on my join date because if you are, you might want to talk to one of the mods about that. Once you do and they tell you what happened around here that messed up many forum members joining date, you'll feel like a bigger moron than you are now (if that is humanly possible).

You've done a stellar job of making a complete asshat out of yourself in this thread; calling me out as a Steeler fan (which I'm not), not being able to understand how much of a front running fraud you are by being a Patriots/Lakers/fill in the blank fan, and screwing up by calling me out as a fan only from 2004 based on an incorrect join date.

Please let us all know what public school system you drifted through so we can warn parents in that town.........

Honestly, I would classify the Colts as closer to being a dynasty than I would the Steelers. I see see the Steelers as a team that has been very good for a long time, but this year and 2004 are the only years in which they have been dominant. They have some downright mediocre years thrown in the mix.

These steelers remind me more of the Redskins of the 80's-early 90's. Those Redskins teams were very good most every year, but only now and then rose to the ranks of the elite. By the time all's said and done these Steelers might win 2-3 Super Bowls, but they will be spread out over a number of years, not so much clustered together in a run .

I guess it comes down to whatever definition each one of gives to the term 'dynasty.' Outside of sports it referred to kingdoms that stayed in power from one generation to the next. Within sports I first recall it simply referring to the franchise who had been the best over the course of history of that sports league. There were four dynasties for the four leagues: the Packers, Yankees, Celtics and Canadiens.

Somewhere along the line the term changed to refer to teams that were the most dominant in their sport over a shorter period of time, specifically either while the core of primary players remained intact; or for which team was the most dominant for a specific decade. Then there are some that have gone so far to refer to teams that weren't even the best of their era as dynasties (e.g., fans of the Raiders, Cowboys, and Dolphins teams of the 70's sometimes refer to their 'dynasty' even though the Steelers won more SB in the 70's than any of those other teams.)

So let's remove the word dynasty to avoid the ambiguity. Are the Steelers the best franchise of the Super Bowl era? Probably, although Cowboy and 49er fans may also have an argument. Are the Steelers the best team of this decade should they winin two weeks? No, the Pats would still be the team of the decade - though the Steelers would pass the Colts for 2nd place.

Like it or not, they are clearly a dynasty, I'd go so far as to say the greatest NFL dynasty. They're on their way to a 6th Super Bowl title, they've been in 14 AFCCG's and have been a very good team every decade since the 70's, the only team to have at least one Super Bowl appearance in the past 4 decades.

You are talking close to 40 years of excellence, noone can top that, end of story........

i agree. I dont like it, but if you are unbias, you have to say they are a dynasty and probably the best over a long period of time. If we had our offense with their defense, we would never be beaten...ever!
