ProFootballTalk.com - MEEKS IS OUT

We can officially remove the question mark from our prior post regarding whether the Colts have fired defensive coordinator Ron Meeks.

We can now report that they have.

And thus Meeks is the second of three coordinators to exit the team in less than a week after Jim Caldwell succeeded Tony Dungy.

So much for continuity.

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

Very surprising indeed. I'm not about to rip their ST coach and DC given the limited player resources they get.

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

was meeks the guy heralded as the best in the business at stealing signals? i dont quite remember...

or was it the colts O-line coach

No that would be BB and the Pats.

That was the OL coach, Howard Mudd.

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

Is he really to blame? I mean what can you do if the weak link on your team are our DEFENSIVE TACKLES? Really-poor DTs = opposition is able to gash the middle with their run games = long drives sustained = your D gets tired = your offense stays off the field for long stretches. You saw that time and time and time again with this Indy D.

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

Finally is all I can say.

Our D year after year is inconsistent, vanilla and has poor tackling.
No more fire Meeks threads on Colts forums I guess.

Guess Caldwell unlike Dungy is not going to just do what we do and make excuses. Caldwell says he wants to beef up the D line and tweak things.

People have to admit beating our D was easy, dink and dunk them to death and run and keep Peyton on the bench for long drives.

I expect a defensive heavy draft with possibly some bigger guys drafted at DT and LB.

This is true but this year it was very bad for us on third down. All year you saw teams convert third and long by PASSING which was frustrating to see.

I got heavily frustrated when I heard Dungy say after the playoff loss that he was not too concerned about third down.

ha...welcome to the club friend

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

This makes sense, Meeks was Dungy's guy. Caldwell has to build up his own staff. I wonder will this signal a change of strategy from spending the money on offence and making do on defence?

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

Wow, they really want to change that defense getting rid of Dungy AND Meeks. The defense that finished 7th overall in PPG against a pretty tough schedule? That's why they're the DOLTS. Good luck getting better results than that out of their defensive personnel.

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

There's a reason Meeks was fired and Tom Moore looks like a God.

Colts offensive spending - $61,748,698
Colts defensive spending - $39,909,628

EDIT: Might as well include the Patriots McDaniels vs Pees

Pats O - $60,179,825
Pats D - $44,185,471

i bet it depends on who is replacing meeks and what scheme it is. and above all its polian's team really. he can define it how he wants.

but the colts red zone d was great which is why they made it to the playoffs.but dungy being a nice guy and all really played a lot into not facing criticisms and even polian wouldnt admit issues in the D openly.

Did you include Viniatieri in the offense, or not count him at all. I think his contract is significantly larger than our kicker?

Re: Wow. Meeks out in Indy.

Who is our defensive coordinator?

Not included. He was making 2-3 million. More then Anthony Gonzalez surprisingly.

After seeing those numbers, look at where the Colts ranked in terms of PPG:

Colts offense - 13
Colts defense - 7

Sheesh, glad our team isn't in the same hands.
